For a format that was at risk of being obsolete during the advent of Prestige shows, sitcoms have been serving as the biggest pillars for Paramount on the small screen, thanks to Chuck Lorre and his creations. While Taylor Sheridan is responsible for keeping Paramount Plus afloat, on the broadcasting side, CBS is certainly doing pretty well for themselves.

With the network strengthening its grasp on the traditional TV landscape, it’s safe to say that shows like NCIS and The Big Bang Theory will continue to be the golden goose for the network.
At this rate, spin-offs to The Big Bang Theory won’t stop coming

In contrast to Paramount’s struggling streaming line-up, CBS is doing a lot of the heavy lifting, as in 2023 alone, it aired 13 of the top 20 broadcast series, once again securing its spot as the most-watched US network (via BNN Bloomberg).
Although shows like NCIS and Chuck Lorre‘s The Big Bang Theory, in addition to their spin-offs, are irrefutably some hefty contributors to CBS’ stranglehold of the market, it doesn’t seem CBS has any intentions to change its ways.
In addition to TBBT‘s success, CBS and Lorre have crafted two more spin-offs, Young Sheldon and George and Mandy, set to be followed by the upcoming Stuart spin-off. But despite imitating a structure similar to its predecessor, unlike other major cinematic giants, which are falling victim to their own formula, Lorre’s CBS ventures have continued to garner traction.
Chuck Lorre’s simple approach to storytelling has continued to bear fruits

As for his goals when it comes to shows, Lorre is driven by his enthusiasm regarding projects he is genuinely excited about, as at the end of the day, he loves telling stories that he feels are worth listening to. On top of it, with his works, he primarily aims to give viewers a healthy dose of laughter, adding (via EW):
I try and pursue things that I’m excited about that I think are wonderful, that working with people that I love and admire and telling stories that I think are great stories to tell, and the potential of making people laugh is a wonderful thing to do. When you come home at night, did you make people laugh? That’s not a bad day.
Given how fruitful things have been, Lorre and CBS currently have zero incentives to attempt anything different, as, at the end of the day, fans tune in with these sitcoms to have a healthy laugh.
The Big Bang Theory is available to stream on Paramount Plus.
