“You are kidding me”: Even John Cena Couldn’t Believe He Was a Bigger Money Machine Than Dwayne Johnson During Their Biggest Match

John Cena is one of WWE’s most popular stars. He is on the Mount Rushmore of wrestlers and was their biggest merchandise seller at his peak. John Cena’s shirts used to sell like hotcakes, and his merchandise still sells out. Hence, it should not be a surprise to anyone (including Cena) that people buy anything related to him. Yet, Cena was amazed when he heard that his merch got sold out while the Rock’s wasn’t. The Rock is more popular than Cena so it is quite surprising.

Yet, it should not come as a shock to any wrestling fan. John Cena’s merchandise attracted the most important demographic they were targeting then: kids. WWE used to release a different Cena shirt every six months. They used to come in various colors: Green, Purple, Red, Orange, etc.

When the Rock came back in 2011, WWE released a shirt that had “I Bring It” at the front of it. They also released a Bramha Bull (in American colors) shirt with a black background.

In this video here, he asks about his merch numbers after Survivor Series 2011. The man says they got ‘20%’ and that Dwayne got ‘16%’. Cena sounded surprised there. Then, he surmised that those people were booing him when the match was happening but bought his merch.

Some users on X harkened it back to the promo he made on Raw about how much of a burden fans were on him. It does show how much Cena understands where the character needs to be taken now.

John Cena’s character has taken a new turn

John Cena’s character now hates the fans he used to love. He said it as much this past RAW.

Shortly after arriving, Cena took the microphone, but it took a few minutes for the audience to settle down before he could start talking. He was greeted with a barrage of jeers each time he attempted to begin his part.

When Cena eventually started talking, he attacked the fans, saying that he had been a puppet throughout his career, only ever acting to amuse his followers and that none of them had ever returned the favor.

Not even Cena’s fans were safe. When he began his farewell tour, Cena wanted to give back to the fans, but no one bothered to give him the respect or attention he felt he deserved. He said they were just as horrible as the people jeering him.

Cody Rhodes, then, decided to enter. Rhodes interrupted Cena’s tirade and gave him a chance to defend himself, but Cena’s arguments were unconvincing, and the fans, who were firmly in favor of Cody Rhodes.

He ended the segment by telling Cena to find himself, saying that if this version of Cena challenged him at WrestleMania, Rhodes would force him to “retire early.” Rhodes then called Cena a “whiny (expletive),” and left the stage as Cena watched. Then, he too left as the boos rang loud from the crowd for their fallen hero.

WrestleMania 41 is set for Saturday, April 19 – Sunday, April 20. The two-night event will take place at Allegiant Stadium near Las Vegas, Nevada.
