After its initial release in December 2024, Marvel Rivals has dominated the world stage with its intense hero vs hero battles and Team-ups. The game is the absolute embodiment of chaos and if you’re a new player then it will definitely take you some time to get used to the visuals to know what’s actually happening on the screen.

While the game is straight-up anarchic, NetEase Games, the developers of the title are always trying to keep the game as fun as possible but that too with the expense of balancing the game. Let’s find out what that actually means.
Marvel Rivals faces one of the most serious issues than any other competitive game
Marvel Rivals took the world by storm when it was released and there is good reason for it. The game is an absolute treat to play. It features one of the best art styles seen in any hero-shooter game and the gameplay introduces one of the best mechanics since the past decade.
Although Marvel Rivals focuses more on the fun aspect of the game, it does not put that much effort into keeping the competitive play balanced. In a recent interview between PCgamer and the game’s executive producer, Danny Koo, he mentions how they are more focused on making the characters fun to play instead of focusing on balancing the game.
So every character we balance for fun, first and foremost, as in if the character is fun or not [to play], that’s always number one, And then the team has data on win rates, making sure that no one character is too painful and oppressive so that everybody’s still having fun. But that’s secondary. This game is built to be more acceptable for casual play, People just want to have fun at the end of the day—that balance for fun is always the key number one priority of anything.
Koo also added how in Marvel Rivals, each character has their own uniqueness and how the developer team focuses more on making each character feel special to the player. While it is true that each character has their own identity, NetEase is clearly ignoring the balance aspect of the game, and doing this is completely destroying the competitive element.
NetEase should really nerf Moon Knight’s ultimate

Marvel Rivals is lawless, it thrives on the chaos that is created by unique characters in the game. Although NetEase has made it clear that they will focus more on the fun element rather than balancing the characters, an even playing field is something that all hero-shooter 6v6 games deserve. A prime example of uneven competitive viability can be Moon Knight’s ultimate ability.
Moon Knight’s ultimate ability remains untouched by the developers despite the constant complaints of it being too overpowered. NetEase’s ignorance to nerf overpowered characters shows how they would rather focus on casual entertainment over esports-level of competition.
While we are unsure whether NetEase will work on balancing the game or not, one thing we are sure of is that, if this issue persist, Marvel Rivals‘ will never be able to achieve competitive sustainability.
