When will the investigation be completed? – Afenyo-Markin to interior Minister

Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has raised concerns in Parliament regarding the timeline for an ongoing investigation into a critical national security issue.

Speaking during proceedings monitored by MyNewsGh, Afenyo-Markin also took the opportunity to congratulate the newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), whose introduction was made by the Interior Minister.

“Mr Speaker, the minister, in his answer, took the opportunity to introduce the new IGP. I want to congratulate him on his appointment,” he stated.

However, the Deputy Majority Leader pointed out an interesting detail regarding the IGP’s tenure in the police service.

“Suffice to state that in the statement from the minister responsible for government communications, he told the country that the new IGP has spent 40 years in the service—40 years as a police officer. So, at the right time, we would calculate whether he entered at 2019 or 2018, his age and all,” he remarked.

Shifting focus to the ongoing investigation, Afenyo-Markin pressed for clarity on when the process would be concluded and when the findings would be made public.

“Mr Speaker, when should we expect this investigation to be completed? And when would the report be submitted for us to know? Because this is a serious matter of national importance,” he questioned.

He acknowledged the importance of the investigation into allegations of tax overreach by the police but insisted on a concrete timeline.

“It’s a good effort that you are investigating, but the question is when are we expecting the investigation to be completed, and when will the report be submitted?” he reiterated.
