‘We’ve been waiting for this,’ say buzzing Morocco fans as Rangers hero Hamza Igamane makes international debut

MOROCCO fans were put through the wringer during their World Cup qualifier against Niger.

The hosts raced into a shock lead in the first half and it looked like Morocco were set to drop their first points of the qualifying campaign – until substitute Bilal El Khannouss stepped up with the winner in stoppage time.

That was the moment that got all the supporters up out of their seats.

But fans watching the game on the TV were already raving about another sub just minutes beforehand.

Many took to social media to express their delight at seeing Rangers star Hamza Igamane make his debut for the national team.

One fan commented on X: “I’m so happy to see Igamane play.”

Another thanked the manager for putting his faith in striker, saying: “Thank you (Walid) Regragui for seeing the light. We’ve been waiting for this.”

A third added: “I can’t wait to see Igamane. What a player.”

The Rangers striker came off the bench in the 80th minute when the game was 1-1 and celebrated with his team-mates when they finally found their winner before full-time.

Punters online were so excited to watch the striker in action that they were calling for him to replace experienced frontman Youssef En-Nesyri as early as half-time.

But the Fenerbahce hitman, who was dumped out of the Europa League by Igamane’s Gers, remained on the pitch until he was replaced by the 22-year-old near the end of the clash.

Igamane didn’t have much time to make an impact but he’ll be relieved to kickstart his international career with three points.

Morocco are now six points clear at the top of their qualifying group after winning their first four games.

Meanwhile, Igamane’s Rangers team-mate Ianis Hagi didn’t fare quite as well in his Nations League clash with Romania.

The 27-year-old came off the bench in the second half as Romania fell to a shock 1-0 home defeat to Bosnia.

Ross McCausland was an unused sub for Northern Ireland in their friendly against Switzerland.
