West Ham set to step up interest in Evan Ferguson as Bayer Leverkusen linked with shock move for Ireland starlet

WEST HAM will prioritise a move for Evan Ferguson over Ajax’s Brian Brobbey.

The Hammers have been in talks about Brobbey, 22, this month.

But Ajax want a £25million permanent deal while West Ham prefer a loan with an option to buy.

Brighton have indicated they will let Ferguson, 20, leave on loan. Yet the Irons face fierce competition from Prem rivals and Germans Bayer Leverkusen.

Fulham and Bournemouth have registered interest in the striker.

But the Irons hope Graham Potter’s relationship could give them the edge.

Potter handed Ferguson his debut at Brighton, with the striker scoring one goal in his five appearances under the former Seagulls boss.

There are some concerns over Ferguson’s fitness, with the 20-year-old having suffered from persistent ankle issues after breaking into the Brighton team.

A move to Germany, to team up with Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen, would be appealing for the ambitious star.

Alonso’s troops are on the lookout for a striker with Victor Boniface set for a move to the Saudi Pro League.

Leverkusen are second in the Bundesliga, trailing Bayern Munich by six points.
