Yuki Tabata is sneaky when it comes to spreading hints in Black Clover. He loves leaving little caveats that make fans overthink the meaning of a certain scene. Needless to say, there are plenty of Black Clover scenes that still make fans speculate about what they actually mean.
And one scene in particular is spreading around the Black Clover fandom. Fans are busy trying to interpret it, while Tabata has shown no signs of demystifying it. But fans are having a hell of a time trying to find their own meaning out of the scene.
Fans are misunderstanding a dialogue of Black Clover‘s Julius
In the earlier episodes of Black Cover, Julius had to battle the Eye of the Midnight Sun members. By the end of the fight, he restrained all of them and was even surprised by how easy it was. After it is all over, he takes notice of Asta and says:
We seem to be connected by fate somehow.

At the time of delivering this dialogue, it was very vague what Julius meant by it. After all, he is the Wizard King and can use Time Magic. But fans did not stop theorizing about it, and even newer anime-only fans like to speculate about what Julius meant.

One common misconception is that Julius is the father of Asta. The Wizard King might have known about everything, but circumstances forced him to stay quiet. However, once he saw Asta, he had to give a hint about their intertwined fates. While this is a very juicy theory, Julius is actually not related to Asta at all.
What Julius could have actually meant
What Julius actually meant at the time is somewhat debatable but not completely indecipherable. Julius was born with two souls in his body. The other one belonged to Lucius, the oldest Zogratis sibling. As if this wasn’t enough struggle, he is also the host of the devil Astaroth.
In the latest saga of Black Clover, Lucius takes over Julius’ body to challenge Asta and the rest of the Magic Knights. It is possible that Julius realized the fact that both he and Asta are devil hosts and are somewhat similar. Additionally, both are anomalies in the magic system. While Asta has Anti-Magic, something that goes against magic itself, Julius has Time Magic, which could be called the strongest and most mysterious of them all.
Another thing that Julius could have meant is how both Julius and Asta defied all odds to become what they were. Asta has no mana and yet he became a magic knight. Julius also broke several norms by becoming the Wizard King despite not belonging to any royal family. Julius could have found kinship in Asta.
At the same time, Asta aims to be the next Wizard King. He also represents the ideals that Julius himself believes in. Being an anomaly in the system, his strength is beyond royalty and bloodlines, and he creates hope for a new future for the Clover Kingdom. It is possible that Julius saw the beginnings of a worthy successor in Asta, which drove him to say what he did.
