The University of South Africa (UNISA) invites qualified South African academics to apply for appointment as Independent Contractors (Markers) in the Department of Communication Science within the School of Arts, College of Human Sciences.

About the Opportunity
The appointed Markers will provide academic assessment services in line with UNISA’s ODeL strategy, the UNISA Assessment Policy (2011), and Curriculum Policy. This involves fair, ethical, and timeous assessment of assignments and exams in Communication Science and related fields.
Minimum Requirements
- Master’s (NQF 9) or Doctoral Degree (NQF 10) in:
- Communication Science
- Organisational Communication
- Media Studies
- Strategic/Business Communication
- Integrated Organisational Communication
- Decolonized Communication Science
- Or closely related disciplines
- Minimum 5 years’ teaching or relevant work experience in the field
- Minimum 3 years’ subject methodology teaching or 5 years’ experience in communication science education
- Currently employed as an academic at a tertiary institution for external examiner roles on 3rd-year exit modules
Key Duties
- Mark assignments and exams fairly and consistently
- Adhere to Unisa’s assessment, plagiarism, and ethics policies
- Submit marking reports and meet all deadlines
- Participate in marker meetings
- Maintain confidentiality
- Serve as external examiner and provide quality assurance comments
Skills and Competencies
- Knowledge of communication science, assessment practices, academic integrity
- Constructive feedback and digital literacy (Moodle advantageous)
- Time management, conflict resolution, service orientation
- Proficiency in English
- Access to own computer and internet connection
