Union Bears accuse Rangers chiefs of ‘demonising supporters’ and blast police over ‘abuse of power’

RANGERS ultras the Union Bears have hit back at club chiefs for ‘demonising supporters rather than standing in their defence’.

Their response comes in the wake of a stand-off with cops prior to Sunday’s Old Firm match which saw a hooded Union Bears hardcore marched away from the ground after being flanked by scores of officers and kettled outside Parkhead for more than two hours.

How the Union Bears made the statement

While Ibrox chiefs have remained silent on that, they took the ultras group to task for a banner unfurled prior to the Europa League clash with Fenerbahce which have landed the clubin hot water with Uefa.

Irate Gers were hit with THREE separate Uefa charges after the game, the first relating to a “racist and/or discriminatory banner” and they told out-of-line ultras: “Rangers is not the club for you.

The banner, unfurled by the Union Bears ultras group in the Copland Front, read: “Keep woke foreign ideologies out. Defend Europe.”

And now the Union Bears have responded: “Last Sunday, our supporters endured a flagrant and unwarranted abuse of power through Police Scotland’s deployment of Section 60 authority – an action we believe was unlawful.

“Despite repeated attempts to liaise with Rangers, it has been made clear that they have no desire to engage with their supporters in any meaningful way.

“The club’s silence speaks volumes – they appear solely interested in demonising supporters rather than standing in their defence.

“We have not pursued legal advice for all those subjected to this overreach and have formally challenged both the legitimacy of implementing this Section 60 order without proper justification and the questionable legality of the search and seizure tactics employed.

“We demand that the club break its silence, publicly acknowledge this abuse of power, and exert its influence to compel Police Scotland to account for their actions and explain how they could possibly justify the imposition of such measures against supporters.

“Union Bears. No Surrender.”
