Tradesmen quoted me £2.5K to wrap my kitchen cupboards so I did it myself for £62 instead and it looks so good

A WOMAN who was quoted £2,500 to wrap her kitchen cupboards has shown how she managed to do it herself for just £62.

Maisie explained that she wanted to transform her “glossy white” kitchen, as it felt “clinical and dated”.

But when she received the whopping quote, she decided to try and see if she could DIY it.

She purchased the rolls of wrap from Dunelm for £5 each, as well as £7 worth of tools to help her.

“I went for a dark wood effect, because honestly, I asked AI to show me what it would look like, and it looked so good!” she said in a video on her TikTok page.

She was a “bit too cocky” at the beginning of the makeover job, as she started with the kitchen island – which didn’t have “any grooves or anything funky” going on.

But when she got to the drawers and cupboards, which all have a U-lip handle at the top, she hit a stumbling block.

“I was like, okay, I can see why people charge the amount they do, because this is not easy!” she admitted.

She then enlisted the help of her hairdryer to get the wrap properly applied, but urged people not to look at the finish inside.

“It looks all right from the outside, and that’s really all that matters, okay?” Maisie laughed.

There were some more difficult areas, including around the fridge, but Maisie was able to go around and touch up any areas that needed up thanks to the “forgiving” design on the wrap.

“As well as little gaps to fill in, the other issue that I had was lots of bubbles,” she admitted.

“I just went around with a pin, and then scraped all the bubbles away.

“They’re not all gone, but most of them are!”

Showing off her finished makeover, she said: “I’m actually so proud of myself.

“Like, you can’t tell me that this doesn’t look good! Honestly, who said girls can’t do DIY?

“I think it looks really good, but now my issue is that I want to change the work tops.”

She added in the video caption: “Honestly so proud of myself that I did this for under £100, even if it cost me my patience and sanity!”

What are the biggest kitchen trends of 2025?

The kitchen is the heart of every home and this year it’s taking centre stage, Tracy Coleman, Product Director at High Street TV told Fabulous.

Hardworking appliances

Space-saving essentials are needed in every room of the house, and the kitchen is no exception, meaning appliances are often doing double (or triple) the job.

Expect to see air fryer ovens that roast, bake, and fry or blenders with attachments for everything from chopping to grinding.

Health and wellness
With people becoming more mindful of what they eat and how it impacts their well-being, kitchen appliances are stepping up to
meet the demand for healthier, more balanced lifestyles.

Air fryers remain hugely popular, along with blenders and juicers that retain nutrients.

Energy-bill conscious
Finally, with rising energy bills and an increased focus on sustainability, people are turning to appliances that help reduce power consumption and keep costs down.

More people are finding joy in cooking at home as a cost-effective
way to enjoy delicious, nutritious meals. Cooking at home doesn’t just save money—it’s also a fun way to bring the family together or experiment with new recipes.

With the right tools, such as multi-functional appliances and smart kitchen gadgets, creating meals at home becomes easier, faster, and more satisfying.

People then flooded the comments section to praise Maisie for the makeover, with one saying: “Omg you did exceptional over those drawers!!!!”

“Well done and you give me the idea now,” another added.

“You have the patience of a saint, I could never,” a third admitted.

“I bought 5 rolls of this exact one in Dunelm & I’ll be honest I backed out and returned them because I wasn’t confident!” someone else sighed.

“So proud of you well done looks brilliant!!”

“I just could not! I wanted a change in mine, so I started with changing the handles,” another wrote.

“I made a mess trying to get the old ones off and could never work out how to get the one off the dishwasher cupboard,” someone else said.

“So old ones went back on and the kitchen is never being touched again.”
