‘The Traitors’ Season 3 Prize Money: How Much Did Each of the Winners Make From the Show?

The Peacock reality TV series The Traitors ended its third season with an intense finale. Dolores Catania, Dylan Efron, Gabby Windey, and Ivar Mountbatten won this season as the Faithfuls and split the prize money four ways. The show, hosted by Alan Cummings, has slowly become one of the most fun reality TV shows in recent times.

Similar to the games Clue and Mafia, The Traitors have participants split into two groups called the Faithfuls and the Traitors. As the weeks progress, the crowd thins with the elimination rounds until there is a winner. However, the prize money for the winners is not fixed and changes every season.

What is the format of the game in The Traitors?

With a treatment similar to international murder mysteries, The Traitors pits a group of participants against each other by turning them into Traitors and Faithfuls. The show is inspired by classic mystery games like Clue and Mafia, in which a group of unsuspecting players have a traitor among them, ‘murdering’ other participants.

Set in the Scottish Highlands, the group of participants in the show are taken to a castle where they are supposed to stay and go through a bunch of tasks while also saving themselves from the Traitors. The show puts the participants through several physically demanding tasks, such as trekking through the Scottish Highlands and other activities.

The objective of the game (like any other) is to make it to the end. The prize money goes to the group (or participant) who survives the game, be it the Faithful or the Traitors. The Traitors conspire to ‘murder’ one of the Faithfuls, thus eliminating them, and the Faithfuls vote for the banishment of whoever they suspect to be Traitors.

The objective for the Faithfuls is to eliminate the Traitors and win the prize money at the end of the show. During the banishment rounds, the Faithfuls can dwindle in number as no one really knows who the Traitors are and can give the wrong vote. The Traitors’ objective is to ‘murder’ all the Faithfuls so that they can walk home with the prize money.

Like other reality TV shows, the winners at the end of The Traitors walk home with a bounty of cash for their efforts. Unlike some of the reality TV games, however, there is no fixed prize money on how much either the Traitors or the Faithfuls can take home. While there is a cap of $250,000, not all winners are able to reach that goal in their pot.

One of the ways in which the prize money pot can add more value is by completing tasks. Each week, the group completes various tasks while also figuring out who the Traitors are in the gang. If the Faithfuls manage to banish all the Traitors and reach the finals, they have the opportunity to either end the game and split it evenly or banish more and take home a larger sum.

In the first season, the Traitor Cirie Fields won the full pot of $250,000 and took home the complete prize. She did not share the prize with anyone as she was the sole Traitor left. However, the second season saw a lesser prize of $208,100 shared between the Faithfuls Chris “CT” Tamburello and Trishelle Cannatella.

The third and latest season saw the final prize being split into four. The pot was less than both the previous seasons, with the final amount coming to only $204,300 (via NBC). After eliminating the last Traitor, the four finalists, Dolores Catania, Dylan Efron, Gabby Windey, and Ivar Mountbatten, ended the game and split it between them.

Unlike previous winners of The Traitors, the season 3 finalists decided to do the right thing and end the game once all the Traitors were banished and split the prize money between them. While it was the lowest of the lot compared to previous seasons, with $204,300 in the pot, this also meant that the finalists would walk with fewer shares.

However, that did not seem to bother the winners as they felt they would rather be friends than get a few thousand extra bucks. Dylan Efron, who reportedly moved out of his one-bedroom studio and got into a bigger space, spoke about his calculations during the finale. He said to People,

If we would’ve got rid of Dolores, let’s say, and finished with the three of us, that’s $17,000 extra each —  after taxes, $10,000. So I’d rather be friends with everybody.

His co-finalist, Ivar Mountbatten, echoed his statement, saying that the money was the least important of all in the journey of the game, and he placed more value on the memories. With his share, he reportedly paid for the tuition fees of his children and even helped out with his daughter’s plan to travel around for a while.

Dolores Catania, on the other hand, reportedly chose to give her money to her recently engaged son. She mentioned that she was going to spend the money on buying herself something nice but ended up giving part of it to her son. She also reportedly donated part of her share to some animal shelters.

The Traitors is available to stream on Peacock.
