Attracting thousands of Irish and British tourists every year, Benidorm is a lively destination known for its stunning beaches, cheap pints and vibrant nightlife.

The city is famous for its skyscrapers, earning it the nickname “The Manhattan of Spain”, but it still has a classic beach town charm.

And new research reveals that more Irish tourists are choosing Benidorm as their destination of choice during Cheltenham Festival week, with a 33 per cent increase in searches since 2022.

In particular, Dubliners are flocking to this Mediterranean gem, with a 141 per cent increase in searches for ‘Benidorm Cheltenham’ this year, as they opt for sunny beaches over chilly racecourse weather.

The research also shows that punters can save a staggering €454 by swapping the traditional trip to Cheltenham for a getaway in Benidorm to watch the Gold Cup.

And Ryanair flights go from as low as €30 this spring, making it the perfect time to visit.

The city is home to several gorgeous beaches, such as Playa Levante, known for its golden sand and clear blue waters – perfect for sunbathing or a swim.

If you’re looking for a quieter spot, Playa de Poniente is the place to go, offering a more relaxed atmosphere and scenic views over the sea.

For those who want to mix sun with excitement, there are plenty of water sports to try, like parasailing, jet skiing and even scuba diving in its crystal-clear waters.

And the sunshine spot offers lots of excursions, with one of the most popular being a boat trip around the stunning coves and hidden beaches of the Costa Blanca.

Along with its beaches, Benidorm has a buzzing nightlife scene with a wide range of bars, nightclubs, and pubs, making it a hugely popular spot for party-goers.

One of the most popular nightlife spots is the iconic Benidorm Square, where you’ll find an impressive selection of bars and restaurants.

CHEAP PINTS

Here, pints go for as low as €1.50 during happy hour, making it one of the most budget-friendly travel destinations.

If you love theme parks, Benidorm is home to Terra Mitica.

This fantastic spot is a thrilling amusement park with rollercoasters, and Aqualandia – one of the largest waterparks in Europe – is perfect for a day of family fun once the races are finished.

For something different, head to the old town of Benidorm where the narrow streets are filled with charming cafes and lovely local restaurants.

FAB FOOD

The city’s Mediterranean cuisine is a big draw, offering an incredible variety of fresh seafood, paella and tapas that you can enjoy while drinking a pint.

Another must-see in the old town is the Church of San Jaime, perched on a hill with stunning views of the sea and the city.

For an even better panoramic view, take the cable car to the top of the Serra Gelada Natural Park – where you’ll get a breathtaking sight of Benidorm’s coastline.

With affordable flights from Dublin, Benidorm is becoming an increasingly popular choice for Irish tourists looking to watch the races and catch a sun break.
