The Only WWE Star Who Beat Prime Brock Lesnar in 3 Minutes Still Wants His Final Match in WWE After Losing to Roman Reigns

WWE superstars are some of the most remarkable and enthralling athletes in the world. They put their bodies on the line every week for the entertainment of the fans who come to see them. But the physical toll of years leads to them hanging up the boots someday and every superstar wants to go out in a big way.

That has been the desire of a former WCW Icon. He has been the only WWE superstar to defeat The Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar, in close to 3 minutes. Moreover, he still has the desire for one last match even after taking a crushing defeat at the hands of Roman Reigns. That legend is none other than Bill Goldberg.

The former WCW Champion revealed last year that he would be having his retirement match in 2025. This was something that was promised by former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon after Goldberg agreed to face Roman Reigns in 2022.

In a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Goldberg shed light on his match against Roman Reigns, a top WWE star who is still undergoing chemotherapy for his cancer. It was contested at the 2022 WWE Elimination Chamber Premium Live Event in Saudi Arabia with Roman Reigns’ WWE Universal Championship on the line.

In regards to the match, Goldberg revealed that Vince McMahon had informed him a month prior about the match with The Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns. The WCW legend agreed to do the match, but unknown to many, he was suffering from COVID at the time and did not want that to be his last in-ring appearance.

Vince had promised me another match because not too many people know this, but I took the Roman match with like a month prior notice, and I had Covid. That’s not the way to go out.

Furthermore, Goldberg always knew that he wanted to do something better on his way out from wrestling. This led to his conversation with current WWE CCO, Paul “Triple H” Levesque and they agreed to do his retirement match in 2025.

I always, in the bottom of my heart, wanted to go out and present myself in a little bit more positively than I was able to. I mean, Paul and I spoke and we came to an agreement that in 2025 I’d have my retirement match.

Goldberg is currently recovering from a stem cell procedure he underwent in December 2024 for his shoulder issues. He is awaiting medical clearance, following which he could focus on his retirement match in WWE.

Goldberg’s final match in WWE can be against Gunther

Goldberg had not appeared on WWE television programming for many years. However, he finally returned at the 2024 WWE Bad Blood Premium Live Event. The former WWE Universal Champion was seen sitting in the crowd with his son and wife.

During the show, World Heavyweight Champion Gunther came out and mocked the WCW legend. This led to Goldberg jumping out of his seat and almost coming to blows with The Ring General. But WWE officials intervened to separate the duo.

Since then, it has been rumored that Goldberg will have his retirement match against Gunther. With Goldberg still not cleared for in-ring action, it remains to be seen if WWE will pull the trigger on this mega showdown when he is healthy enough to compete.
