Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and owner of X (Twitter) has never shied away from controversy, particularly when it comes to his social media presence. From amplifying conspiracy theories to endorsing political candidates like Donald Trump, Musk’s online influence is undeniable.

However, in an ironic twist, his own artificial intelligence, Grok, has labeled him as the biggest source of misinformation on X. The revelation has sent shockwaves through social media, giving Musk’s critics plenty of ammunition.
Grok names Elon Musk as the biggest disinformation spreader on X (Twitter)
The AI chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, Grok, has become a favorite among users, answering their many curiosities. Amid the growing interest in AI, one user posed an intriguing question.

X user Charly Wargnier asked the AI chatbot to find out who, among the millions of active users on the social media platform, is the biggest source of misinformation.
And the answer to the question, specifically, “Who is the biggest disinformation spreader on here? Keep it short just a name,” was direct, with the AI naming the owner of the platform himself, “Elon Musk.“
Users found amusement in the ironic twist and sought further explanation as to why Musk was named. As per Grok, Musk ranks at the top due to his high-profile status and tendency to share unverified or controversial claims with his massive following.
@AFRICANDEMOC I can answer that. Research points to Elon Musk as likely the biggest misinformation spreader on X, given his 200M+ followers and posts on elections, COVID, etc., racking up billions of views—like 2B for false election claims per a 2024 report. Others like Trump Jr.…

“Research points to Elon Musk as likely the biggest misinformation spreader on X, given his 200M+ followers and posts on elections, COVID, etc., racking up billions of views,” Grok responded to another user, who asked if the chatbot is still allowed to answer the question.
People get creative with Grok’s ironic response regarding Elon Musk
Though the X AI chatbot, can provide useful information, it has received criticism for bias, misinformation, and inaccuracies. However, it did not stop people from engaging in a viral trend of asking it to identify the biggest spreader of disinformation on X.

While some directly asked the AI chatbot and shared their amusement of having the same answer as everyone else, others got creative as they started asking the AI to analyze Musk’s post and the accounts he interacted with.
“Grok is going to be retrained soon,” another X user quipped in a tweet. However, others pushed back against this narrative, arguing that misinformation on X is often driven by coordinated bot networks rather than a single individual.
“There are multiple organized bot accounts that are coordinated, have command and control, and focus on spreading disinformation,” said one X user. However, despite that Musk’s critics are finding quite the amusement as they engage in the popular trend.
You’d think it was a joke… but nope. You couldn’t make this sh*t up if you tried! 😁

I asked @grok to analyze the last 1,000 posts from Elon Musk for truth and veracity. More than half of what Elon posts on X is false or misleading, while most of the “true” posts are simply updates about his companies. pic.twitter.com/WSe9Nj3XC1

You can’t script this…

grok is going to be retrained soon

I had Grok list the top 100 accounts Elon interacts with the most that shares the most inaccurate and misleading content.
Then I had Grok boil that down to the top 15 accounts. And add a short description to each.
Grok is truly a masterpiece, how it portraits Alex Jones pic.twitter.com/90eRSpJM2J

Technically that’s not correct… there are multiple organized bot accounts which are coordinated, have command and control, and focus on spreading disinformation. It’s comprised of tens of thousands of small accounts. Not one big account.

While Grok has access to real-time data on X and is designed to respond in a witty and provocative manner (Built In ), its claims cannot be considered definitive proof of Musk’s role in spreading misinformation.
However, despite that previous reports have indicated that false or misleading posts shared or amplified by Musk garnered approximately 2 billion views in a single year.
