‘The Beginning After the End’ Could Become the Next ‘Sakamoto Days’ If Things Don’t Change

The Beginning After the End is on the animated adaptation bandwagon and has everyone excited. TurtleMe’s manhwa is turning heads for its interesting and engaging plotline, characters, and the world it is set in. It is reincarnation with a twist, yet it might be heading toward its doom with this move.

In particular, the anime’s visual left most fans divided. Needless to say, their concern is valid especially with how modern anime are botched. Sakamoto Days started with a bang and ended with a whimper and TBATE should avoid that.

The Beginning After the End’s visual has fans divided

The Beginning After The End (TBATE) is one of the anticipated adaptations along with ORV and The Boxer. The manhwa created quite a stir and went on to gain popularity for its themes and tropes. Yes, reincarnation trope can be done right and TurtleMe proved it.

The character motivations are something commendable about the series. Unlike most manhwa whose central focus surrounds the MC, the author sheds light on the side characters. This shift in the storytelling process is what we live for but that isn’t the only thing that makes it unique.

TurtleMe gives a whole new meaning to the “zero to hero” trope. King Grey is Isekai’d to another world after being assassinated. One would assume him to be an OP player or a knight, but he is an infant. He starts life from scratch, which also reflects on his relationships with others.

The anime was announced in October 2024, and it has fans waiting for the series in anticipation. With Studio A-Cat producing the series, fans were worried about the animation. But what looks concerning is a cover art visual that looks generic and bland, as most pointed out.

On r/tbatenovel Redditors note the banal art style and deemed it generic. To be fair, the art does look mediocre. It is also detrimental to a series, especially when it comes to the marketing aspect. This is where teasers, trailers and posters play a pivotal role.

In retrospect, Yuto Suzuki’s series took a big blow with its teasers and visuals. What people thought would be one of the iconic hitman anime turned out to be a complete joke. Yes, this is about the PNG animation but one thing is certain. First impressions aren’t last impressions.

First impressions aren’t lasting impressions

At this point, Sakamoto Days anime has drawn flak from every viewer, reader, and critic. And rightly so, the series failed to live up to expectations on many occasions. The animation and sloppy visuals are unforgivable, indeed, yet they had us in the first half and we’re not going to lie about that!

The teaser visual left fans excited since the series is one of JUMP’s popular shonen manga. As one of the bestselling manga in the shonen genre, it deserved king treatment. However, with TMS at the helm of this project, fans were only left disappointed.

Truly, first impressions are enough to fool anyone, including fans who believed in that. But this isn’t the first time something of the sort happened. Take Uzumaki for example, whose meticulous art was turned into a gag reel. It was almost cartoonish, which is a big insult to Junji Ito’s art but that’s not all.

TBATE has the potential to be one of the finest isekai series and it is possible if the promotion and marketing are handled carefully. Otherwise, it’d only lead to fans being betrayed for the most part.

Sakamoto Days is available for streaming on Netflix. The manga is available for reading on Shueisha’s Manga Plus app. TBATE manhwa is available for reading on Tapas.
