‘The Apothecary Diaries’ Might Escape the Curse of Controversial Manga Endings Because of an Obvious Advantage

Natsu Hyuga’s The Apothecary Diaries is one of the most popular anime series of recent years. While the dynamic characters, be it the protagonist Maomao, Jinshi, or the rest of the reappearing cast are a key reason behind the show’s success, the main draw, of course, is its storyline.

The subtle, simplistic narrative captivates the audience from the start and makes even the darker themes the show regularly delves into bearable to watch.

Interestingly, though, the show’s subtle storytelling also gives it an advantage over many of the bigger names in the anime industry that have been making the rounds for a while. Moreover, it might also help the series to finally break a curse that has hounded the manga scene for a long time.

The Apothecary Diaries has figured out a terrific way to break the curse of disappointing manga endings

The Apothecary Diaries has been dominating the anime industry ever since Season 1 made its way to the screens in 2023. Rightfully so, as the masterful way the series weaves the storyline is quite a thing of marvel even as anime is quickly becoming an integral part of popular culture across the world.

Regardless, the protagonist Maomao’s intriguing narration, too, plays a key part in the series’ magnificent storyline. This aspect of the series especially stands out since a lot of the popular anime series these days end up compromising the storyline for action.

This, ultimately results in a junky mess that although appears cool initially, over time becomes boring enough that many fans drop the show altogether. In The Apothecary Diaries’ case, however, that might never be an issue at all.

The main reason behind that is Natsu Hyuga has done a phenomenal job of firmly holding the storyline in place and weaving it with whimsy and delicacy. To the point that even during the show’s most intense moment it never becomes hard on the eyes.

What deserves even more applause, though, is the fact that not only the translation from the manga to the anime has been smooth, but the clever way the series has utilized its pacing. That is, the way the series spreads details about the plot throughout the filler episodes, is still quite an anomaly in comparison to other popular manga.

This, obviously, gives The Apothecary Diaries an advantage over even some of the most popular anime series in recent years to not disappoint the fans when the time finally comes for the series to conclude.

Fans wonder what might be a satisfying end to The Apothecary Diaries

There is another aspect of the series that makes The Apothecary Diaries quite unique. That is, although the series is shrouded in mysteries from episode to episode, the mysteries aren’t the kind to keep the fans constantly on edge.

As such, while fans go in expecting a terrific time in each episode, they don’t expect any out-of-pocket twists to smack them in the face. Hence, their expectations about the series also stay moderate enough to enjoy whatever comes their way without getting carried away.

Moreover, this also gives them enough leeway to debate what exactly might be in store for Maomao and Jinshi in the future. Mostly because it seems like more than anything else fans are concerned about the two protagonists ending up together when the series finally reaches its end.

It’ll be interesting to see how things turn out in the end for Maomao and Jinshi. Even if a happy ending might be years into the future for their budding romance.

For now, though, with Season 2 of the anime in full bloom, fans are waiting with bated breath to see what new adventure awaits the protagonist in The Apothecary Diaries.

The Apothecary Diaries is streaming on Crunchyroll.
