The Grammy Winner, SZA’s timing couldn’t have been better for wanting to play the iconic X-Men character, Storm. As Marvel gears up to bring X-Men into its fold, SZA makes the perfect pitch to join forces with the MCU to play Ororo Munroe(Storm), the heroine’s real name. As someone willing to do her stunts, just like the legend Tom Cruz, a superhero movie could be the best thing to happen to her.

X-Men‘s Storm excites SZA, as her story traces back to the origin story. She is a one-of-a-kind character from the Marvel universe, channeling depth, thrill, and adventure. Storm is a fictional subspecies of humans, described as the mutant, with supernatural powers to control weather with god-like powers. Storm is a part of the X-Men clan, fighting to bring peace between the words of humans and mutants, forming a bridge of peace.
SZA opened up about her wish to play Storm during The Jennifer Hudson Show, calling the character “gnarly.”
SZA’s next character on screen could be from MCU

Solána Imani Rowe, popularly known by her stage name, SZA, is a powerhouse R&B singer and songwriter. The American songwriter is known for incorporating Jazz and rock into her music, unleashing a whole new experience for the fans. She earned humongous success with Kill Bill‘s track, and her 2018 stint with MCU’s Black Panther track, All The Stars, might push her one step closer to playing her dream character, Storm.
But that’s not all; SZA is also a DC fan, and her recent ad for the State Farm Super Bowl portraying Catwoman justifies her affinity towards playing a superhero. When One Of Them Days actor dipped her toes in acting in 2025, it paved the way for her entry into cinema. While chiming in about her upcoming tour with Kendrick Lamar, she candidly revealed which character she would like to play on screen.
Hudson put her on the spot by saying that she would be a great superhero, and there came SZA’s revelation about playing Storm. She said:
You know how Storm has an origin story? Like she comes from this whole other place where it’s like the jungle. I think that would be so gnarly if I could be Storm [in an] origin story. I love to bring the range.
For SZA, starring as a superhero on the screen would be pretty personal. During Hudson’s show, she revealed that her father was a huge superhero buff and used to keep first-edition copies of Thor and Silver Surfer in his basement. She also revealed that Silver Surfer is her favorite superhero but would love to be the weather mutant if given the opportunity.
Marvel eyeing to pivot X-Men: SZA’s storm pitch comes at a perfect time

If Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is tuned in, SZA throws her hat in the ring to portray Storm in X-Men. This exciting suggestion is pivotal for Marvel, especially following Disney’s acquisition of Fox in 2019. With the studio poised to reimagine the beloved X-Men franchise, fans could soon see the powerful weather-controlling mutant brought back to life in the MCU, potentially with SZA wielding her stunning talent to embody this iconic character.
While Storm being resurrected by MCU seems a far project, SZA is ready to pursue acting seriously and explore the complex range of emotions with the characters. During his talk with Hudson, she opened up about looking for more projects after her debut in One of Them Days. SZA is preparing herself to project more confidence as an actor and grab some intense and adventurous roles in the future. (via. Entertainment Weekly)
