Solo Leveling is a world packed with formidable hunters, some of whom can rival Sung Jinwoo’s strength, but never his aura. His presence alone sends chills, even to the characters of the series. However, there is one man who rivals both his strength and appearance: Choi Jong-In, the strongest mage-type hunter.

From the start of Solo Leveling, Sung Jinwoo’s natural opposite was Choi Jong-In. The latter is a top-tier S-Rank and the strongest mage-type hunter, while the protagonist used to be the weakest of all hunters.
The way Jong-In uses his fashion and fire magic rivals Jinwoo’s cold aura when using his necromancy. His proficiency proves why he’s the strongest mage in South Korea, but his fashion is certainly a choice. It makes him equally as dramatic as Sung Jinwoo, just more expensive.
Choi Jong-In and Sung Jinwoo might be opposites but they match each other’s aura
Sung Jinwoo was initially the World’s Weakest Hunter before the System chose him, barely surviving dungeons without needing rescuing. His talent came from hard work, not raw talent.
Choi Jong-In is another story. He is a legend amongst S-Rank Hunters, the Guild Master of the Hunters Guild, and the strongest mage, specializing in fire magic. He also dresses sharply and is very dramatic about it. While others dress practically, he’s putting on a show.

Fans are naturally curious if there’s a reason why he dresses so dramatically and differently. Nobody else in Solo Leveling bothers to put on a cape. Jong-In had jumped straight out of a mage role-playing game. He stands out amongst the side characters, rivaling Sung Jinwoo’s cold aura that makes him the fan favorite.
Is there a lore reason why this guy for every time he’s on screen, he always dress up with an unfathomable amount of drip that can even rival Sung Jin Woo, a suit layered with a cape, shoulder armor, and rings to amplify his magic, man is stacked

He is, after all, the Guild Master of the strongest and largest guild in Korea. He’s bound to have money and wants to make it known. His power comes from his proficiency in his fire magic, enhanced further by his rings.
Some compare his character to Roy Mustang from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. That alone is a pretty high compliment.

His return in Solo Leveling: Ragnarok solidified that this man will also never change his ways.

Choi Jong-In was the Ultimate Hunter before Jinwoo ever got any status. He’s the only true rival to him because of his skills and effortless control of fire. The drip definitely helps keep him memorable and keeps the fans on their toes.
Fans first believed Choi Jong-In was the Aizen of Solo Leveling
Believe it or not, Solo Leveling fans got confused between Bleach’s Sosuke Aizen and Choi Jong-In. Their features are incredibly similar so it’s not far-fetched. It’s yet another compliment to the fire mage, but it does make him a huge suspect of most crimes in the series.

His similarity to Aizen, even his complex personality and demeanor, made him a red herring to hide the true villain of Solo Leveling. Fans were confused when he turned out to be a regular hunter and a good person.
Still, it’s quite the feat to be compared to both Aizen and Roy Mustang. Choi Jong-In might not be the fan favourite but his aura equals Sung Jinwoo. Any fight involving him is a delight to see on screen.
Solo Leveling is available on Crunchyroll.
