The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning for today, July 14, indicating that 39 provinces in Thailand will experience heavy rainfall, covering 60% of the area.

Seven provinces, including Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Nong Khai, and Bueng Kan, are advised to prepare for potential hazards such as flash floods and runoff.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours predicts thunderstorms and heavy rain in parts of the country due to a monsoon trough passing over northern Thailand and Laos, extending into a low-pressure area in northern Vietnam. Additionally, a strong southwest monsoon is affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

In the north, heavy rain is expected in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Tak, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun. Temperatures will range from 24 to 27 degrees Celsius at the lowest to 33 to 36 degrees Celsius at the highest. Winds will blow from the southwest at speeds of 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.

The northeast will see heavy rain in Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, and Ubon Ratchathani. Temperatures will vary between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius for the low and 30 and 35 degrees Celsius for the high, with southwest winds at 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.

Central Thailand, including Lopburi, Saraburi, and Kanchanaburi, will also experience thunderstorms and heavy rain in 40% of the area. Temperatures will range from 24 to 26 degrees Celsius to 34 to 36 degrees Celsius, with southwest winds at 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.

Weather forecast

In the east, heavy rain is forecasted in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat. The temperature will be between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius and 30 and 35 degrees Celsius, with southwest winds at 15 to 35 kilometres per hour. The sea will have waves 1 to 2 metres high, with areas of thunderstorms seeing waves over 2 metres.

The south (eastern coast) will have thunderstorms in 40% of the area, mainly in Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Yala, and Narathiwat. Temperatures will be between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius and 34 and 35 degrees Celsius, with southwest winds at 15 to 35 kilometres per hour. The sea will have waves around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 2 metres offshore and over 2 metres in thunderstorms.

For the south (western coast), expect thunderstorms and heavy rain in 60% of the area, particularly in Ranong, Phang Nga, and Phuket. Temperatures will range from 23 to 26 degrees Celsius to 31 to 33 degrees Celsius.

From Krabi upward, southwest winds will be 20 to 40 kilometres per hour, with waves 2 to 3 metres high and over 3 metres in thunderstorms. From Trang downward, southwest winds will be 20 to 35 kilometres per hour, with waves about 2 metres and over 2 metres in thunderstorms.

Bangkok and its vicinity will also experience thunderstorms covering 60% of the area, with some heavy rain. Temperatures will range from 24 to 26 degrees Celsius to 33 to 36 degrees Celsius, with southwest winds at 10 to 20 kilometres per hour, reported KhaoSod.

The TMD advises caution, as these conditions could lead to flash floods and runoff, particularly in hilly areas near waterways and low-lying regions.
