‘So odd’ – England cricket legend and Chelsea fan Kevin Pietersen trolls Arsenal after Club World Cup glory

KEVIN PIETERSEN couldn’t help but poke fun of Arsenal after his beloved Chelsea won the Club World Cup on Sunday.

The Blues beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final in New York on Sunday, with Cole Palmer’s double and Joao Pedro’s goal sealing victory.

Former England batsman Pietersen is a big Chelsea fan and, judging by his social media posts, he clearly enjoyed the win – so much so, he’s publicly dug out his club’s London rivals Arsenal.

Writing on X, he said: “Imagine that feeling of continuing to win football trophies. I mean, 2 of them in a couple months.

“Maybe @ChelseaFC should lend @Arsenal one for a few weeks, to show them what winning looks like.

“Would be a great gesture.”

Gunners fans were quick to respond to the ex-cricketer, who last played for England in 2014 and retired from the sport professionally in 2018.

One Gunners reporter replied: “All Chelsea fans do as talk about Arsenal it’s so odd.”

Another replied with a laughing emoji, adding: “All this banter and you’d think Chelsea have more trophies than us.”

Pietersen’s pal, Arsenal fan Piers Morgan, wasn’t having his comment either.

He wrote: “Come back to me if/when you win something anyone actually cares about.”

Morgan is of course referring to the Club World Cup, which has divided fan opinion over whether it actually carries any weight or meaning in the football world or if it is simply, as some have said, a money-making exercise for clubs and the organisers.

It’s likely he’s also referring to the Blues’ Europa Conference League win in May.

Chelsea will be competing in the Champions League next season, and Todd Boehly will have boosted fans hopes of silverware there thanks to viral footage from the Club World Cup.

Arsenal, who will also compete in Europe’s top flight next term, haven’t won a trophy in five years – the 2020 FA Cup.

The Gunners have finished as runners up in the Premier League for the last three seasons – which is probably what Pietersen is also nodding to.

Chelsea v PSG ratings

CHELSEA conquered the world with a stunning 3-0 victory over Champions League winners PSG.

Cole Palmer stole the show with two goals and a brilliant all-round performance that almost put Donald Trump in the shade.

But how did the rest of Enzo Maresca’s world beaters get on?

Pietersen played 104 Tests and 136 ODIs for England, scoring 8,181 and 4,440 runs respectively.

He’s confessed his love for Chelsea on numerous occasions, often bantering fans of other clubs on social media.

Speaking in 2014, he told The New Indian Express: “Chelsea is my team. I am good friends with many players in Chelsea, including Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and John Terry. I live in Chelsea and train there too.

“I also underwent rehabilitation in Chelsea when I had my Achilles tendon injury.”
