Available Bursary Fields (Fixed-Term Positions)
The following undergraduate bursaries are available for the 2025 academic year:
- Bursar: Metallurgical Engineering
- Bursar: Mechanical Engineering
- Bursar: Ventilation
- Bursar: Mining
- Bursar: Rock Engineering
- Bursar: Management Accounting
- Bursar: Geology
- Bursar: Communications
Purpose of the Bursary
The Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine (SBPM) Bursary Programme aims to support academically capable and financially needy students in furthering their tertiary education in fields relevant to the mining industry. The programme is open to students currently in Grade 12, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year of study, pursuing an undergraduate degree at a South African accredited university.
What the Bursary Covers
Successful applicants will receive full financial support, including:
- Full registration and tuition fees
- Full accommodation (excluding vacation periods)
- Textbooks
- Learning material and equipment as prescribed by the institution
- Monthly allowance
- Structured vacation work and workplace exposure at Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine
Required Documents
To apply, please submit the following:
- Completed bursary application form
- Proof of registration or university acceptance letter
- Certified copy of South African ID
- Latest academic record or Grade 12 results
- Proof of residence
- Proof of household income
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be currently in Grade 12 or registered for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year of study
- Must be enrolled in one of the above-listed fields at an accredited university
- Demonstrated financial need and academic performance
