“She can’t act, she can’t sing, truly awful”: Gal Gadot is Not Going to Like How Much Critics Disliked Her Work in Snow White

Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White has been creating a ruckus among fans and over the internet ever since it was first announced. The decision to cast Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen and their subsequent controversy (Zegler’s “weird weird” comments and Gadot being an Israeli actress) further spelled doom for the film.

Well, the film is in theatres, and the results are right in front of us. Fans have unanimously declared Snow White as one of the worst live-action Disney movies ever to be made. While surprisingly, critics have not been as unkind to the film and Zegler, Gadot has received some of the worst critical reviews.

Snow White has been a contentious film since its early days. At the receiving end of backlash since its first days, the film was released on March 21 in the United States. Surprisingly, the critical reviews of the film are not as bad, and currently, the film has a 44% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and similar ratings on other sites.

While Rachel Zegler has garnered rave reviews for her portrayal of Snow White despite the backlash over her casting, her co-star Gal Gadot has been receiving near-career-ending reviews. Grace Randolph, the famous film critic, stated in her review:

If I was her Director, I would say Gal for your own sake we’re just gonna keep doing it… I don’t care how many times it takes, we’re gonna keep doing it until we get a usable one. She can’t act, she can’t sing, she even has trouble just standing there. She is truly awful.

Meanwhile, Decider has an equally critical but slightly better-phrased review: She overacts without ever seeming especially scary or even human, she repeatedly telegraphs her evil by shtickily arching a single eyebrow, she speak-sings without much conviction, and she generally plays the Queen as a poor man’s version of what Charlize Theron was doing with the same role back in 2012.

While The Nightly dubbed her a miscast and not at all menacing, DiscussingFilm states that it was her worst performance to date, unable to sell us on the glamour, fierceness, or true camp of a classic Disney villain. However, Screen Rant, Collider, and RogerEbert.com blamed Erin Cressida Wilson’s screenplay for her lackluster performance.

Fans reactions to Gal Gadot’s performance in Snow White

When Gal Gadot was first announced to play the Evil Queen in Disney’s live-action Snow White, pro-Palestine supporters had called for a boycott of the film due to her being from Israel. However, seeing the reviews and reactions the former DC star has been receiving, it matters little if she hails from Israel, for her ‘terrible’ performance is enough to keep the audience away.

While film critics are busy labeling her performance as the worst ever of her career, fans have had similar ‘kind’ words to say. Scroll on to see how fans are reacting:

Well, although there are some fans who have been hailing Gal Gadot as wonderful, the majority of critical and fan reactions speak for themselves. Deadline reports that the film is eying over $15.5 million at the domestic box office, taking its three-day total to over mid-$40 million. Reportedly, the film was made against a budget of $269 million and will have to gross well over $500 million to be a success (via The Numbers).

Snow White is in theatres now.
