The pair, who work for Scots firm Simon Howie in Perth, will be in Paris as part of the the UK Lions Squad and Team GB Butchery.

They had to undergo a gruelling selection process to make the team.

Richard, 49, has been in the trade for almost 30 years, starting out his career in 1996.

His decades of experienced earned him a spot on the Senior Squad.

While youngster Ben, 22, who has been following his dad’s footsteps for five years is one of two apprentices on the team.

They will join six other competitors on the Lions Squad who have been training at Plumpton College, just outside Brighton, for the past year.

The competition will see them go head-to-head with some of the best butchers on the planet.

Their rivals include Hellers Sharp Blacks from New Zealand, The Real Butcher Team from Brazil and the current world champions the Butcher Wolfpack from Germany

Richard and Ben will be racing against the clock to show off their skills.

They will have to show it using a variety of different meats.

These include beef, pork, lamb, and chicken.

As much as he is excited for the competition, Richard said being able to compete alongside his son makes it much more special.

He said: “We’re extremely excited about travelling to Paris at the end of the month.

“This competition really is the Oscars of the butchery world so to be representing our country is a dream come true.

“Competing alongside my son Ben makes it even more special and I’m delighted we are getting to share this experience together.”

Their boss Simon Howie told how everyone back home will be cheering them on as they compete.

He added: Simon Howie said: “As two of our best butchers and most loyal team members I’m not surprised that Richard and Ben have been chosen to represent the UK.

“This is a great opportunity for them and we wish them all the very best in the competition.

“We’ll be cheering them on from back here in Dunning and can’t wait to hear all about it when they get back.”
