Sarah Lavin hits season-best at Ostrava Golden Spike meet as form builds for Ireland star ahead of World Championships

IRELAND’S Sarah Lavin clocked a season’s best of at the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava, Czech Republic on Tuesday evening.

The Limerick native recorded a 12.76 time to finish third in the women’s 100m hurdles.

Sharlene Mawdsley will return this weekend in Slovenia for the first time she the passing of her father

She shave O.2 off her previous best time this season after the impressive showing.

The 31-year-old was beaten by world record holder Tobi Amusan, who dominated from the start and crossed the line in 12.45.

Amusan finished 0.3 seconds clear of Slovakia’s Viktoria Forster, who edged Lavin for second place with a time of 12.74 after a very tight contest.

Lavin’s performance marked a strong improvement on her previous season’s best that was recorded just three days ago in Finland.

And it’s good signs for the Lisnagry ace as she builds forma ahead of the World Championships that are set to take place in Tokyo from 13–21 September.

Lavin’s next appearance will come at the European Team Championships in Slovenia this weekend.

She’ll run for her country in both the 100m hurdles and the women’s 4x100m relay.

Elsewhere, Sharlene Mawdsley has confirmed her return for Ireland after taking time away following her dad’s death.

Mawdsley, 26, has not raced since achieving a season’s best in Michael Johnson‘s Grand Slam Track event in Philadelphia at the start of June.

Her dad Thomas died days later on June 3 at the age of 67, with the Tipperary star taking time to mourn before returning to training.


And on Monday, the Paris Olympian confirmed that she will be returning to the track at the European Athletics Team Championships in Slovenia this weekend.
