‘Sakamoto Days’ Author Is Compromising the Reputation of the Manga After the Anime Already Messed Things Up

Although Yuto Suzuki’s Sakamoto Days has become one of the biggest anime and manga names in 2025, there is still some criticism, especially for the anime series and the things that it has done wrong since the beginning. One such criticism came for the blandness of the narrative’s flow and the absence of thrill from almost every major fight scene in the series.

This has become one of the biggest issues for the Sakamoto Days anime series, and while there have been speculations about the anime trying to make up for it, it looks like there might not be much progress. Especially when the manga itself is losing its reputation since the past few chapters and following on the same path as the anime.

The enticing story of Taro Sakamoto has probably received some major criticism from fans regarding the plot holes within the narrative. The most recent one was seen after the release of Sakamoto Days chapter 205, which features the main antagonist of the story, Slur also known as Kei Uzuki, and his plans for Japan as a country.

Sakamoto Days anime lost face because of the fight scenes

Last year, when the anime adaptation of the Sakamoto Days manga was announced, fans were very excited as the story was already earning a lot of fame and recognition in the manga industry. The series saw the release of its first episode in January, and while the first few episodes managed to leave an impression, the success of the anime was short-lived.

There is no doubt that Sakamoto Days is a popular story, and fans are loving it, but it is nowhere near the hype that was expected around the time of its release. And the main reason behind it is the uninteresting portrayal of the battle and action sequences featuring Taro Sakamoto and other assassins that was Sakamoto Days’ specialty.

While the story is indeed quite unique and enchanting, the action in the anime is not what was expected at all. In fact, it feels rather bland and even makes the entire narrative a little boring. Maybe it is the modification made by the anime series or the unsuccessful portrayal of the Sakamoto Days plot, but the anime series just can’t get it right.

The Sakamoto Days manga is also losing its reputation

One of the main reasons behind the fame and popularity of the Sakamoto Days anime series was the hype around the manga, which was considered to be one of the best. In terms of delivering a story through the Japanese art form, Yuto Suzuki did a great job with the Sakamoto Days manga and is still making waves with it.

However, since the past few chapters, the manga has also been facing some criticism, which in some ways feels valid, considering the issues with the plot. The most recent one was Slur revealing his objective to the entire world, and then the reaction of the people around it. Slur mentioned the JAA and the assassins hiding as general masses, and this shocked the entire community, which felt a little odd.

This was because, according to the storyline in the past, the people of the Sakamoto Days universe should already know about the world of assassins and their role in the story. In fact, there was an entire Assassin Exhibition of the Century which allowed regular citizens to learn about the trained killers and their secretive world.

Not only that, the battles that take place in the Sakamoto Days storyline mostly happen in front of a crowd, which proves that there is no way the people don’t know about the assassins, JAA, or their activities. Hopefully, Suzuki will make some sense of it in the future and bring back the elements that helped Sakamoto Days become a success.

Sakamoto Days is available to watch on Netflix.
