And if that isn’t reason enough to entice you, the rest of your trip will also be kind to your bank balance.

With everything from beaches and waterparks to mountains and museums, this city break has it all.

Foodies are sure to enjoy the local cuisine, especially any wine drinkers.

Ranked fourth cheapest in the world for wine, you can pick up a high-end bottle from just £3.

And there are even vineyard tours and wine tastings available for just £20.

A walkable city, Reggio Calabria’s centre is located just 8 kilometres from the airport.

You can hop on a bus for just 15 minutes and reach the city for just €2 (£1.66).

With a wide variety of hotels in the area, savvy tourists can nab a hotel room from just £26 per night, according to Expedia.

There are also a variety of cultural sites to see in this stunning part of southern Italy.

The ‘Opera di Rabarama’ consists of three sculptures created in 2000 and is located on the waterfront.

Slightly older, the Riace Bronzes are 2,500-year-old Greek bronze statues and can be found in the Reggio Calabria museum.

Adults entry is €10 (£8.32), while anyone between 18 and 25 can enjoy a reduced fee of €2 (£1.66).

And once you’ve dragged your kids around all the historic sites, what better way to reward them than a trip to the local waterpark?

Open from June til September, the AcquaPark Odissea 2000 waterpark is the perfect way to spend the day, especially if temperatures reach highs of 31 degrees.

For just £15 entry, the park has slides, a water roller coaster, pools, a lazy river, plus a pizzeria and bar.
