‘Risk of flooding’ as heavy rain to batter 5 counties TOMORROW as before weather shake-up amid 25C Met Eireann forecast

IRELAND is set to see wet weather conditions return tomorrow after a week of warm weather.

Cathal Nolan, from Ireland’s Weather Channel’s, warned that heavy downpours are expected to occur in the northwest, bringing a risk of localised flooding.

Mayo, Galway, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal are the spots expecting to be worst-hit by the weather.

Taking to social media, Nolan said: “A band of heavy rain is expected to develop into parts of the northwest of the country on Monday with a risk of some localised flooding in some parts.

“Rainfall totals in general in these areas will range between 15-20mm, but some areas, especially upland areas could see totals of between 25-35mm, perhaps even a little more over the mountains.”

While the northwest counties are set to battle the heavy rain conditions, the majority of the country will experience warm, humid conditions with clouds increasing during the afternoon.

And some rain is expected to spread eastwards during the late afternoon and evening.

Cathal revealed that for the rest of the week, it will bring “mostly settled conditions” on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with odd showers developing in parts of the east and northeast of the country.

Temperatures will reach the highs between 17 and 20 degrees Celsius.

However, the settled conditions wouldn’t last for long as the following weekend is expected to see “more mixed” conditions.

He added: “Later on next week and into the following weekend a more mixed and mobile westerly airflow develops with some outbreaks of rain developing, especially so across the west and northwest with the best of the dry weather in the east and south of the country. Temperatures are average for the time of year.”

Met Eireann said sunshine will develop in a lot of areas today, especially this evening.

But some cloud and mist patches will linger along southern coasts and Met Eireann warn showers will “bubble up” in places.

They revealed exactly where will be hit by downpours and where will remain dry.

They explained: “A few showers may bubble up later this afternoon too, mainly in parts of Leinster and east Ulster.”

They added: “Highest temperatures of 19C to 25C warmest across the midlands and east, with winds becoming light to moderate south to southwesterly and freshening later near some western coastal parts.”

COOLER NIGHTS

Tonight it will be cloudy again with outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading from the west.

Mist and fog are to be expected too, with rain to continue tomorrow.

Met Eireann added rain would be most “persistent and heavy” in the west and north of the country.

It will become drier and brighter in these parts later on tomorrow but cloud will continue.

Temperatures could reach up to 23C in parts of the country on Monday before dropping to just 8C in a cloudy night.

Tuesday and Wednesday are set for more rain and cloud with “temperatures dropping back from recent highs”.

And the nights will be “cooler” too Met Eireann have warned.
