Rangers cult hero reveals he wants to come back to manage club – but not for another TEN YEARS

SCOTT ARFIELD has revealed he’d love to be the Rangers manager one day.

But he’s giving himself ten YEARS before that happens.

But he has his eyes on a more permanent return to Rangers…[/caption]

Arfield achieved cult hero status at Ibrox during a five-year spell at his boyhood heroes between 2018 and 2023.

The midfielder is now back in Scottish football with Scottish Championship leaders Falkirk, the club where he started his career, after spending time in MLS with Charlotte FC and Bolton Wanderers down south in League One upon leaving Gers.

Arfield, 36, could find himself back in the Premiership coming up against Rangers next season but he’s aware he’s now heading towards the tail end of his playing days.

With that in mind he’s started thinking about his plans once he hangs his boots up and it looks like coaching is firmly on the cards.

In an interview with BBC Radio Scotland, Arfield was asked who the best manager he’s played under was.

And, who he thought should be the next permanent head coach at Ibrox.

Speaking about the bosses he’s worked for, Arfield said: “A mix of them all.

Steven Gerrard was amazing, I learned a lot with Sean Dyche, Yogi Hughes was amazing.

“And I’m really liking the way John McGlynn works now.”

Before being quizzed on his thoughts on what the Ibrox dugout will look like in future, Arfield declared Falkirk icon Russell Latapy as the best player he played alongside and former Chelsea ace Eden Hazard as the best he’d ever played against.

As Sportsound host Kenny Macintyre asked for his opinion on the next permanent Rangers manager, Arfield insisted the man currently in interim charge is in a good place.

He said: “Barry Ferguson has done himself no harm.

“But in ten years’ time? Scott Arfield.”

In a series of quick-fire questions in which he lifted the lid on various aspects of his career, Arfield opened up on the scariest rant he’d ever witnessed in a dressing room.

He also named a “surprising” choice for the smartest player he’d ever played with.

“Yogi thew me up against a wall because I couldn’t move in the first half!

“My performance that day wasn’t up to his standards.

“And I accepted it.”

Arfield continued: “Off the pitch, surprisingly, Allan McGregor was the smartest.

“Not the sharpest tool in the box? Take your pick! Thousands of them.

“I will go straight away with Charlie Taylor.”
