Ever since Snow White was officially announced, the movie has been mired in controversy. It all went down when Rachel Zegler first made some comments on the plotline of the OG Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The questionable quality of CGI was another sticking point.
When all this seemed certain to derail the movie’s box office campaign, Snow White was offered a shot in the arm by the positive reviews from its Hollywood premiere. Fans were left with the hope that the Rachel Zegler hate would finally abate. And it seems like they were right.
Controversies surrounding Snow White seemed more than likely to weigh the movie down

Rachel Zegler‘s casting as the titular Snow White opened up a can of worms for Disney Studios. While some held a grudge against her for the fact that she was not as fair-skinned as the Disney princess is believed to be, some couldn’t make their peace with the fact that she wasn’t a fan of the character’s love story.
It was all the way back in 2022 when the controversy came to a head. The 23-year-old made some striking remarks about Snow White‘s story needing to be recalibrated, but she didn’t stop there.
Labeling the movie as ‘dated’ and claiming that the princess would date someone who ‘literally stalks her’ made her one of the most hated protagonists in the history of Disney live-action adaptations.

For all the hate that was coming its way, the movie seemed destined to crash at the Box Office. But there might be a change in the script, with Snow White receiving a dream opening.
Snow White‘s dream debut means that the movie could leave its mark at the Box Office

With a stellar domestic box office debut of $16 million, Snow White has done what many people believed to be impossible – make way to the second-best debut of the year behind Captain America: Brave New World.
The feat marks an important milestone for the Rachel Zegler starrer, as the studio can finally dream big. The movie cost Disney north of $250 million, a mark that it will be hard-pressed to cross. With positive reviews and a decent domestic opening to boot, Disney will fancy its chances to recoup the money it spent on the flick.
Dare we say, Disney can dream. There have been instances of Disney flicks opening up to indifferent reviews and a modest opening, to overcome uncertainty at the Box Office.
Mufasa: The Lion King is one such instance. The movie made the most of its $35 million opening, going on to rake more than $700 million worldwide. If the 2025 flick is to be considered a hit, then it will have to equal the 2024 flick’s feat (if not better it).
With great reviews and the expectations that the Gal Gadot starrer is on track to make $45 million in its opening week, Disney ought to fathom its chances.
