Prince William, Kate Middleton Are All Smiles at Six Nations Rugby Match

Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton put on a united front at the Wales Vs. England Six Nations rugby match — even though they support rival clubs.

William, 42, and Kate, 43, stepped out at the rugby tournament on Saturday, March 15, at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. The twosome met with players from both teams before taking their seats in the stands.

The Princes and Princess of Wales are both patrons of rugby organizations in the United Kingdom. William has a patronage of the Welsh Rugby Union, while Kate helms the Rugby Football Union.

“I am so thrilled to become Patron of the Rugby Football League and Rugby Football Union – two fantastic organizations who are committed to harnessing the power that sport can have in bringing communities together and helping individuals flourish,” Kate previously wrote via Instagram in February 2022, announcing her new position. “I look forward to working with them across all levels of the games, and to cheering England on in what promises to be an exciting year for both sports!”

William and Kate frequently step out at rugby matches, often bringing along their children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.

“I’m letting him choose his own way. It’s about finding what fits for him,” William said during an appearance on the “That Peter Crouch Podcast” in July 2020, specifically mentioning George’s athletic interests. “I do like the values and the ethos of the [Aston Villa soccer] club. I want them to look after the players and set a good example to the young fans. I want our children, when they go to the match, to come away loving what they’ve seen, enjoying it and seeing their role models behave in a way that we’d all want them to.”

William and Kate’s Saturday outing marks yet another engagement since she completed her cancer treatment. The duchess was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in early 2024, which required chemotherapy. By the end of the year, Kate had entered remission.

How Kate and William ‘Strengthened Their Bond’ Amid Cancer Battle

“The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown,” she wrote in a September 2024 statement. “With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything. This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved.”
