Prince Charles is Not Prince Harry’s Real Father: 1 Myth About Princess Diana’s Love Life is Still Pretty Famous

The British Royal Family attracts considerable media and public attention. This excessive attention, thanks to their position, has given leeway to conspiracy theorists to craft a bunch of ill-founded theories that continue to dominate public discourse even today. Given that the late Princess Diana is one of the most famous royals even today, her life, naturally, has been a web of theories and myths that fans continue to believe in.

One such myth is that Prince Charles, aka the now King of England, is not Prince Harry’s father, but it is actually James Hewitt, Diana’s lover and riding instructor, who is the real father.

For years, the life of the British Royal family has become a favorite of conspiracy theorists and tabloids, who have been busy making money off of feeding ill-founded and baseless rumors. While there are several rumors floating around even today about Princess Diana, one of the most persistent ones is that Prince Harry is not the biological son of King Charles III.

The rumor suggests that Prince Harry is the son of James Hewitt, the riding instructor of Diana, with whom the Princess was reportedly having affair with between 1986 and 1991. This speculation largely stems from the fact that both Hewitt and Harry have red hair, a relatively uncommon trait in the Britsih Royal Family.

Many have even pointed out that the other members of the immediate royal family lineage do not have the distinctive ginger locks that Harry has. Given that Diana’s affair with Hewitt has been well-documented and that both parties and others have publically acknowledged their relationship, it has led to this conspiracy theory that Harry is their child and not Diana and Charles’.

Moreover, the rumors of feuds between the British Royal family, particularly between Harry and Charles, have also added fuel to the fire, leading many to believe in the ill-founded conspiracy theory.

The reason why ‘Prince Harry being James Hewlitt’s son’ rumor is not true

While conspiracy theories rage on and this rumor continues to be believed by the masses, many fail to acknowledge a crucial fact: Prince Harry was born in 1984, while Princess Diana didn’t meet James Hewlitt until 1986.

Richard Dalton, Diana’s longtime hairdresser, in his book It’s All About the Hair, talked about this rumor. Stating the same thing that Harry was born before their first meeting, he said Diana and Hewitt’s relationship went on from 1989 to 1991. Moreover, as for the Prince’s red hair, he said that Harry got his hair from his mother’s side since the Spencer family had red hair. Diana’s brother Charles and sister Sarah both have similar hair.

While Hewitt has denied this rumor twice, once in 2002 to BBC and once in 2017 (via E! News), Prince Harry, too, has dispelled such claims. Back in 2023, while suing Mirror Group Newspaper on allegations of phone hacking and using unlawful means to obtain information, he stated in court that the rumors that James Hewitt was his father were very damaging and very real to him (via Newsweek).
