President Mahama swears in COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as new IGP

President John Mahama has officially sworn in Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), ushering in a leadership change within the Ghana Police Service.

The appointment, announced on Thursday, March 13, was formalized at a swearing-in ceremony held at the Jubilee House on Friday, March 14.

The event was attended by senior government officials and top security personnel.

COP Yohuno steps into the role with an extensive law enforcement career spanning over four decades.

Prior to his new position, he served as Deputy IGP in charge of Operations and has been instrumental in enhancing national security efforts.

His career trajectory includes key leadership roles within the service.

In 2024, he was appointed Deputy Inspector-General of Police under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, following recommendations from the Police Council.

Before that, he held positions such as Accra Central Divisional Commander, Accra Regional Operations Commander, Deputy Accra Regional Commander, and later, Accra Regional Commander in 2013.

Recognized for his commitment to public safety and crime prevention, COP Yohuno’s appointment signals a new chapter for the Ghana Police Service under President Mahama’s administration.
