Planned power outage to affect these areas in Johannesburg

Johannesburg’s City Power has implemented an eight-hour planned power outage affecting nine areas in the city on Thursday, 3 July 2025, Friday, 4 July 2025 and Tuesday, 8 July 2025 in different substations.

The power utility stated that the power outage was implemented due to maintenance work needed to be done on the electricity network.

Customers are also urged to treat their electricity supply points as live, as the supply is restored at any time.

AREAS AFFECTED

Here’s a list of the suburbs that will be affected by the power outage on Thursday, 3 July 2025, from 9:00 to 17:00 at Houtkoppen Substation:

  • Area
  • Street
  • Noordhang
  • Dexter Road

On Friday, 4 July 2025, from 9:00 to 17:00, the power outage will affect these areas at Randburg Substation:

  • Area: Ferndale
  • Street West Avenue

In the following week, at Harry Galaun Switching Station, on Tuesday, 8 July 2025, these areas will be affected by the power outage:

  • Elias Road
  • Part of Langeveld
  • Part of Berger Street

ESKOM CUTS OFF POWER IN GA-RANKUWA

Eskom, together with the South African Police Service (SAPS) has disconnected power in Ga-Rankuwa Extension 26 on Tuesday, 2 July 2025, following illegal electricity connections in the area.

The disconnection follows Eskom’s revenue losses caused by the illegal connections.

Eskom mentioned that the illegal connections pose a serious threat to the public.

“Illegal connections not only overload the network, cause power outages and equipment failures, but they also endanger lives, with many resulting in serious injury or even death,” said Eskom.

The power utility urged customers to report any suspicious activities or unauthorised person operating on equipment to the Eskom Crime Line No 0800 11 27 22 or WhatsApp 081 333 3323.
