The Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA) invites South African students to apply for bursary funding for the 2026 academic year. The bursaries, administered by the PSSA through the Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (FPE), aim to support students pursuing Pharmacy-related qualifications at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Bursary Application Closing Date: 11 October 2025
Fields Covered
Undergraduate:
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) – funding available for students entering their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study.
Postgraduate:
- Pharmacy-related Masters or Doctoral qualifications – funding based on project viability, academic potential, and financial need.
Eligibility Criteria
Undergraduate Bursary:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must have completed Matric
- Must be studying full-time toward a BPharm qualification
- Must be in 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study
- Must be studying at a recognised South African tertiary institution
- Must be a PSSA student member (membership is free – email nitsa@pssa.org.za)
- Must have passed all previous subjects/modules
- Must have achieved minimum 60% average at mid-year
- Must show proven financial need (combined household income under R130 000 per annum before tax)
Postgraduate Bursary (Currently Closed):
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must have completed Matric and an undergraduate qualification
- Must be studying full-time toward a Masters or Doctoral Pharmacy qualification
- Must be registered at a recognised South African tertiary institution
- Must be a PSSA student member
- Must read and agree to the terms and conditions (refer to pages 2 and 6 of the application form)

Undergraduate Bursary:

Submit your completed application with the following documents:
- Certified copy of ID document
- Certified copy of full tertiary academic record
- Motivational letter from a pharmacy lecturer
- Financial declaration signed by applicant and sponsor (with proof of household income: payslips, affidavit, balance sheet, or proof of pension where applicable)

Postgraduate Bursary:
Currently closed. Applications reopen in March 2026. Candidates must consult the “Guidelines for award of the SAAHIP postgraduate bursary” before applying.
Important Notes
- Do not submit original documents – only certified copies.
- Bursaries do not cover existing student loans or debt.
- Confirmation emails will be sent upon successful application receipt.
- If you do not receive feedback, consider your application unsuccessful.
- Final decisions are made by the Committee and are non-negotiable.
