Orlando Pirates: Why Mbule is two players in one

Orlando Pirates’ 2025/26 Betway Premiership season will feature one of South Africa’s most popular players, Sipho Mbule.

The 27-year-old joined the Buccaneers after a controversial exit from Mamelodi Sundowns due to alleged misconduct.

Mbule is one of 10 new Orlando Pirates signings, along with Oswin Appollis, Sihle Nduli, and Sinoxolo Kwayiba.

Ask any football coach around the world what abilities they look for in a new signing. The likely answer is a player who can play in multiple positions.

Kaizer Chiefs agree to sign Velebayi and Baartman, but…

This is what new Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou will get from Mbule. Born in Bethlehem, Free State, Mbule began his career at SuperSport United’s juniors before making his professional debut at the same club.

This was also the same setup where Mbule learned to play two different positions in midfield: central midfield, also known as the number eight role or creative midfield. Additionally, Mbule can also show his talent in the attacking midfield position, also known as the number 10 role.
