One Piece: Loki’s Redemption in Chapter 1143 Is Cool, but Oda Beating His Devil Fruit Criticism Is What I’m Excited For

Spoiler Alert !!!
One Piece chapter 1143 spoilers

The spoilers for One Piece chapter 1143 have been a special one for me because they have finally put some focus on the character development of the new members of God’s Knights by introducing their Devil Fruit abilities. Not only that, according to the spoilers, the chapter will also reveal how they use these Devil Fruits to the best of their potential.

And while the spoilers also contain information about other aspects of the story, like Loki’s redemption, the emphasis on the Devil Fruits’ powers is particularly important because it highlights one major detail about Eiichiro Oda’s writing in the final saga. This detail links to the criticism that Oda received after the One Piece time skip.

The One Piece mangaka has finally brought back the essence of the Devil Fruit powers and given them the significance they deserved. It feels like they have gained back their place within the narrative and hopefully Oda will beat the criticism for ignoring Devil Fruits and focusing only on the Haki power structure in One Piece.

The Devil Fruit criticism that Eiichiro Oda received after the time skip

When the One Piece series started back in 1997, Devil Fruit was considered the main source of power within the story. While Haki was mentioned as a power structure, it was not really as significant as it is today, and I was quite enchanted by the variety of the Devil Fruit abilities and their unprecedented powers that were portrayed throughout.

However, as the story progressed, Haki became more prominent and eventually gained its place alongside Devil Fruits in One Piece. But the time skip changed everything and it was established that Haki is the supreme power in the story, and it is the only ability that can conquer everything. This was not liked by One Piece fans at all.

Essentially, I felt like Devil Fruits lost their place within the One Piece narrative. This led to Eiichiro Oda being criticized for not giving Devil Fruits the respect that they deserved. In fact, it was assumed that even the final saga wouldn’t focus on the Devil Fruit power structure and everything would be depended on Haki and its different forms.

Elbaph might help Eiichiro Oda beat the criticism

While Oda has been bombarded with criticism and hate for ignoring Devil Fruits in One Piece, it looks like he has taken note of these hate comments and has decided to give Devil Fruits a second chance. I observed this in the spoilers of One Piece chapter 1143 which made the revelation of Saint Sommers and Saint Killingham’s Devil Fruit powers.

It even makes sense to link Devil Fruits with the Celestial Dragons as they have known about them for a long time and have not only used them for their personal vendetta but also for amusement. Thus, they have a pretty decent knowledge of them and could potentially open doors of many other mysteries hidden within the One Piece storyline.

This way, Oda not only beats the criticism for ignoring Devil Fruits in One Piece but also adds a new angle for God’s Knights and Celestial Dragon’s development within the narrative. I feel that the upcoming chapters will put a special focus on the Devil Fruit powers of God’s Knights and give a proper explanation of how they can use it so well.

One Piece manga is available to read on Viz Media.
