Since the concept of the World Government has been established in One Piece, I have seen many theories and speculations about the Marines betraying them and opposing them in the final battle of the series. These speculations come from the fact that Marines have a lot of good characters that do not contribute to the villainy in the One Piece story.

One such character that according to me is on the good side is Sengoku, former Fleet Admiral of the Marines who currently is an Inspector General in One Piece. Although some One Piece fans might think of Sengoku as a villain because of his actions during the Marineford arc, his connection with Garp and his overall development proves otherwise.
I believe that Sengoku might be one of the first characters to betray the World Government and side with Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates during the final war. This speculation comes from the foreshadowing that Eiichiro Oda did with Sengoku’s Devil Fruit abilities in One Piece and their reference to mythology.
The power of Sengoku’s Devil Fruit in One Piece
Although Sengoku was introduced long ago in One Piece, his Devil Fruit abilities were only revealed during the Marineford arc. I was startled to see that Sengoku has the power of a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit called Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibutsu, which allowed him to transform into a golden Buddha, which also led to his nickname Sengoku the Buddha in One Piece.
As it is a mythical Zoan Devil Fruit, Sengoku can not only transform into a giant golden Buddha but also a human-Buddha hybrid. The Devil Fruit enhances Sengoku’s size and power and makes him capable of destroying even the strongest of things. Aside from that, it also allows him to create powerful golden shockwaves with his hands.
These shockwaves are so powerful that they manage to defeat most of the Blackbeard Pirates and also clash with the power of Gura Gura no Mi in One Piece. As of yet, Sengoku has only used his Devil Fruit powers only once and thus me and many other One Piece fans are eagerly waiting for him to make a return and give a better understanding of his Devil Fruit abilities.
Sengoku’s Devil Fruit hints that he will betray the World Government
As mentioned above, Sengoku’s Devil Fruit power allows him to transform into a giant golden mythical Buddha. While other One Piece fans might have not noticed it, I believe it was Eiichiro Oda’s way of foreshadowing Sengoku’s betrayal of the World Government and siding with the opposing forces in the final war of One Piece.

In mythology, Buddha’s path to enlightenment started with him leaving behind all the authority and power they had. It was only that he managed to gain the status of a God and thus became a deity. As Sengoku’s Devil Fruit power is a reference to Buddha, it is safe to assume that he might also try to find enlightenment and the only way to do it is by giving up his power.
He has already given up his status as the Fleet Admiral of the Marines, and now I feel he might leave the Navy for good and become an opposing force that will help take down the World Government and negate their secret agenda in One Piece. Sengoku is bound to make an appearance once again and fans will have to wait and see how his narrative folds out.
