Met Eireann’s Liz Walsh gave the sunny update and pinpointed exactly when things would turn more unsettled.
She said: “High pressure has been the dominant influence for a good while now and it’s going to bring us one more day of beautiful spring weather but there will be more cloud around from tomorrow, Friday and into this weekend.”
For today the weather bosses have promised highs of 13C to 18C across the country.
The warm conditions will be accompanied by “long spells of hazy sunshine” once mist and fog clears in the early morning.
It will be “dry and bright” with a “rather warm” feel, particularly in the midlands and west.
Tonight cloud will build as the night progresses, bringing falls of rain in 7C to 10C temperatures.
Downpours will start as showers but turn into “longer spells of rain” in Munster and Leinster before spreading across the country.
Friday is set to be a very wet day with temperatures sitting at a cooler 11C to 16C.
Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather took to social media to warn of the rainfall amounts.
He said: “Heavy rain Friday with over 10mm in parts of South and West.”
And Met Eireann added: “Mostly cloudy tomorrow, Friday, with scattered showers, the showers merging to give longer spells of rain at times.
“A few heavy or thundery downpours are possible, especially in the south and west.”
Further outbreaks of rain on Friday night with mist and drizzle forming in 5C to 9C temperatures.
Longer spells of rain will turn “heavy” on Saturday and continue overnight but showers will clear from the west before morning.
Daytime temperatures in the east will sit at 9C to 13C but turn colder into the afternoon, while the west will be cooler again with 6C to 8C temperatures.
On Sunday rain will clear once more, leaving a dry day with some cloud and sunshine.
Daytime temperatures on Sunday will sit at highs 8C to 11C before a “dry and cold” night with a drop back down to 0C.
NEXT WEEK’S OUTLOOK
Conditions look set to improve once again next week with more high pressure on the way.
Met Eireann said: “High pressure looks set to be the more dominant influence into midweek next week bringing generally quiet and benign conditions but with the chance of scattered light showers.”
Monday will be dry and bright with sunny spells across the eastern half of the country.
Some cloud and drizzle is possible with temperatures of 9C to 12C.
