NSRI confirms death of beloved local man at Still Bay

On Monday afternoon, NSRI Still Bay duty crew were activated following reports of a local man in difficulty surf-skiing near to the local Still Bay jetty, upstream on the Goukou River.

The local 65-year-old man, Robbie Robbertze, much loved by the local community and the NSRI, surf-skiing on the river with a friend, appeared to suddenly and unexpectedly fall out of his surf-ski near to the jetty.

Alarm was raised

Stéfan Grové, NSRI Still Bay station commander, said: “An NSRI Still Bay crewman witnessed the incident and assisted the man’s friend to recover the casualty from the water where CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) efforts were commenced and the alarm was raised.

“Our NSRI Still Bay crew and medics, WC Government Health EMS and the SA Police Services responded.

“Extensive CPR efforts continued and the patient was transported by EMS ambulance to local doctors with CPR efforts continuing.

“At doctors rooms, after all efforts to resuscitate the man were exhausted sadly the man was declared deceased by doctors.

“Our thoughts, care and condolences are conveyed to the family and friends of the sadly deceased local man Robbie Robbertze.”
