The most recent Daft.ie house price report released in January revealed that gaff prices in Cork city have increased by 6.3 per cent, with the average price now approaching €350,000.
Along with the rising cost of homes, you can now purchase a parking space on the western side of the city for €25,000.
Sherry Fitzgerald is offering this parking space, located on the grounds of Suncroft, for a price that is higher than the cost an entire house in the area would set you back less than 50 years ago.
The space is described as being in a highly convenient location, situated across from Hennessy’s Centra.
And it is within walking distance of UCC, major hospitals, and bus services to the city centre.
Suncroft is located along the riverside of Victoria Cross – an area that has seen major development in student accommodation over the past decade.
The parking space is enclosed within walls for insurance purposes, and the listing said it can comfortably accommodate a car or a medium-sized van.
Sherry Fitzgerald revealed that the space is close to being sold, so interested buyers may need to act quickly.
The listing received reaction from the public online.
One person wrote: “Fair play to the seller if they find some idiot to pay 25k considering an annual residents parking permit is €30 per year.”
Another person said it was a potential investment opportunity, as it is in a sought-after location.
They commended: “I bought a parking space years ago near a college. No regrets, a private parking spot for rent is a solid investment.”
A third person said: “Saw them for 70k during the Tiger years. Long way to go yet.”
Another person wrote: “Yep. Parking spaces are an underrated investment.”
Meanwhile, another debate on Reddit is taking place over people who leave their bags on the spare bus seat beside them.
BUS DEBATE
The debate kicked off on Reddit with a post calling out people who leave their bags on empty seats during crowded Dublin Bus rides.
The post reads: “There is no excuse. On a rainy Tuesday morning, people soaked and finally getting on the bus, only for people to not move their bags and let them sit down.
“If this is you, you need to get a grip. You have no right to monopolise two seats.”
And others have taken to the comment section to chime in on the debate.
One commenter had enough of being polite, saying they just loudly ask people to move their bags because it’s public transport and they’re not about to stand for it.
And some commuters revealed that they now purposely go to sit next to the bag, just to make the bag owner’s day a little more inconvenient.
