No hope for Ghanaians – Minority criticizes 2025 budget

The Minority in Parliament has criticized the 2025 budget statement, stating that it fails to address the economic hardships facing Ghanaians.

Speaking at a press conference, the Minority highlighted key concerns, including the cost of living, unemployment, and business conditions, which they claim were overlooked in the government’s economic policy.

“Unfortunately, these issues were not addressed by the economic policy. For those who were looking forward to efforts to halt further increases in electricity bills, they were disappointed to note that electricity prices would rather be adjusted every quarter,” they stated.

They also accused the government of secretly removing subsidies on gas prices, increasing the weighted average cost of gas from $7.8 to $8.4 per mmbtu, which they argue will push energy costs even higher.

On fuel pricing, the Minority noted that despite promises from the NDC to use the Special Petroleum Levy to cushion consumers, the budget was silent on the issue.

“Without any policy intervention announced in the budget, it stands to reason that drivers can expect the rises in fuel prices to continue. No hope when it comes to resetting fuel pricing,” they added.
