Nintendo’s Lawsuit Against Palworld Forced Pocketpair to “scale back a little bit and hire security guards” For Tokyo Game Show

It’s been a while since it was revealed that Nintendo and The Pokemon Company are suing Pocketpair, the mind behind Palworld. However, that didn’t stop the studio from bringing updates to Palworld for gamers who couldn’t get enough of “Pokemon with guns.”

The conversation on the lawsuit between Nintendo and Pocketpair seems to have settled down a bit. Now, the developers of Palworld have opened up about the studio’s initial reactions to the event and how it forced them to hire extra security.

Pocketpair took extra security after Nintendo lawsuit

While talking at the Game Developer’s Conference panel, as reported by PC Gamer, Pocketpair communication director John Buckley opened up about Palworld‘s explosive launch. He revealed Pocketpair’s vision for the game and how it tackled challenges.

Buckley also talked about the hardships the developer had to face, particularly after the Nintendo lawsuit. While referring to the whole lawsuit as something that “didn’t feel good,” Buckley stated that he couldn’t go into many details as the lawsuit is still active.

However, he revealed that Pocketpair was absolutely shocked. The developer had done all kinds of legal checks for the game before its release. Due to Nintendo’s legal pursuit, Pocketpair was forced to change a lot of plans when it came to Palworld. These included things such as the PlayStation release and even the Tokyo Game Show participation.

We were just about to go to Tokyo Game Show. Obviously, we had to kind of scale back a little bit and hire security guards and stuff like that. But yeah, the short answer is it did not feel good

Pocketpair had to get the help of additional security guards and scale back its plans. The studio knew about the seriousness of the situation and was frustrated as things were spiraling out of its control.

If you’re unaware of the whole lawsuit, it was filed back in September by Nintendo. It’s centered around a patent infringement, and Nintendo aims to seek an injunction and compensation from Pocketpair. According to Nintendo, Palworld fringes upon a number of patent rights.

Despite everything, Palworld has been a massive success for Pocketpair. It managed to lure over 32 million players to the experience, and Pocketpair has even formed Palworld Entertainment in a partnership with Sony.

Legal hurdles wouldn’t stop Pocketpair from perfecting its magnum opus. The developer has finally brought the highly-anticipated crossplay update for Palworld that allows gamers to play with each other across all updates.

Alongside this, update v.0.5.0, which is already available for players, brings the Global Palbox, allowing gamers to collect Pal data to transfer between worlds.

We also have a brand-new storage system, bigger than Palboxes, which allows Guild members to access it. Gamers can also enjoy the new Cosmetic Armor System, which allows for the changing of character appearances without switching armor stats.

There’s also the addition of a Photo Mode with the crossplay update. Gamers can now use this feature with the Pal Command Wheel and remove the UI to click pictures. Drafting Table is also now available to craft higher-rarity blueprints with the help of lower-rarity ones.

Gamers adventuring in Palworld will now be able to encounter new NPCs and see improvements in their behavior during conversations. Pocketpair has also adjusted NPC event rewards and their conversation logs have been completely reset so rewards can be claimed again.

Alongside all these additions and changes, Pocketpair has addressed a number of bugs and glitches in the game. These include issues with exploration, servers, combat, and much more.
