Neil Lennon sees funny side on Somerset Park scouting mission as his first job for new club is checking up on ex-captain

NEIL LENNON will return to the dugout as a manager next weekend.

Dunfermline announced during the week that they had brought the former Celtic captain and manager into the club on a short term deal.

And they have given Lennon the hot seat in the hope he will guide them to Championship safety.

Chairman and CEO David Cook said that he was “the outstanding candidate for the role” and said “he will bring a huge wealth of experience to the club.”

The Pars currently sit second bottom of the pile after a run of poor results led to the sacking of Michael Tidser.

Lennon‘s first game in charge next weekend will be against former Hoops captain Scott Brown.

And he is preparing for the tie by watching Brown’s side in action against Hamilton this weekend.

Spotted chuckling in the stand, he watched his first opponents net a late equaliser to rescue a point at home.

Oli Shaw put the away side 1-0 up in the 65th minute before a dramatic end saw the hosts score through Ethan Walker in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

It could turn out to be a valuable point for Brown’s side however they have failed to win in any of their last THREE outings.

They do still sit second in the league and have high hopes of pushing for promotion to the Premiership.

But his former manager Lennon will be ensuring he does everything to put a dent in those hopes when they face off next weekend.

Speaking when the announcement was made, he said: “Short term our aim is obviously to be in the Championship next season.

“Having watched the match against Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup it’s clear there’s talent in the squad, perhaps just a little low on confidence at the minute.

“What we want to do is bring an energy, confidence and an exciting brand of football. It may not happen instantly but we want to play on the front foot, excite supporters and get the players believing in what we’re doing.”
