Katja’s parents fled a war-torn Burundi in 1997, and lived in Germany, where she was born, before the family moved to Dublin.
As well as presenting on the telly, Katja often opens up about her personal life on her social media.
She recently took to her TikTok to share a video celebrating Irish music, where she wrote: “Just an Irish girlie with her favourite Irish song.”
And today she took to her TikTok to directly address some of the disturbing comments she has received.
The troll said: “Emm how are you Irish enlighten me please?”
Katja hit back and said: “If I’m not Irish, Australian people aren’t Australian. American people aren’t American and Canadians can’t be Canadians.
“Unless of course they’re aboriginals or natives. I think that’s what you’re trying to say.
“You can be from two cultures at the same time. Love you.”
Katja’s friends and fans raced to her comment section to show their support for the presenter.
Irish TikToker, Jamie said: “Dumb people will always be dumb. You are a national Irish treasure! We love you.”
Gabby said: “Say it louder.”
While Suzanne remarked: “You are the best of our country.”

Oisin gushed: “Firm grip of logic. So, you’re definitely Irish.”
Another fan added: “You’ve a stronger accent than most of the trolls commenting. Why can’t people just Shut up.”
Katja isn’t alone in her slamming of trolls as influencer Garron Noone has deactivated his Instagram and TikTok accounts after hitting back at the far-right in the wake of a viral video on immigration.
The Mayo native, who boasted 1.7 million TikTok followers, had been asked by fans to give his opinion on Conor McGregor‘s St Patrick’s Day White House appearance.
The influencer received a huge amount of backlash online from all sides of the debate.
Many influencers, friends and fans have since defended Garron and hit back at trolls who have sent him “abuse”.
