Naruto: Kishimoto Backed Himself into a Corner By Making a Side Character Survive One Horribly Overpowered Ability That Can Hurt Even the Ten-Tails

In the world of Naruto, the tailed beasts or biju were the strongest beings. They defined ultimate power with their immense chakra and boundless strength. The strongest characters could barely compare to them, and a single strike from them was equal to death. Even Hokage-level shinobi ended up sacrificing their lives against tailed beasts.

Considering that, it doesn’t make much sense for someone like Suigetsu to escape a full-fledged battle against Killer Bee alive. Killer Bee was the Jinchuriki of one of the strongest tailed beasts, and even attacked Suigetsu with his strongest attacks.

So, how come Suigetsu escaped that fight alive? There are some reasons that could explain Suigetsu’s luck, especially when we consider his powers. However, it’s still hard to deny that plot armor played a huge role in that entire fight.

Suigetsu surviving against Killer Bee was bizarre

Suigetsu became Sasuke’s ally when the latter decided to join the Akatsuki. Their biggest challenge as a team was their fight against Killer Bee, the Jinchuriki of Gyuki or the Eight Tails. Sasuke, Suigetsu, Karin, and Jugo were up against Killer Bee. Even though it was a fight of four against one, Bee handled them quite well and nearly drove them to their deaths.

The power difference was clear and if Sasuke had not been one of the main characters, he likely wouldn’t have survived. While Sasuke had plot armor, it doesn’t make much sense for a side character like Suigetsu to escape such a deadly battle. This is simply because Bee attacked Suigetsu directly with the Tailed Beast Ball.

It’s one of the most devastating techniques as it is a massive ball of chakra. Fans on Reddit wondered how Suigetsu withstood such a strong attack and even survived it.

There’s zero reason why Suigetsu survived this at point blank

Had it not been a direct hit, it would have been more believable to see him escape the attack. Masashi Kishimoto should’ve explained this particular scene better during the aftermath. While the mangaka left this unresolved, fans came up with their own explanations to explain Suigetsu’s luck.

The possible reasons that could explain Suigetsu’s survival

Throughout that fight, the character who was able to somewhat keep up with Bee was Suigetsu. Sasuke nearly lost consciousness at multiple points and had to take Karin’s help to prolong the fight. On the contrary, Suigetsu continued to fight directly as well as provided support to Sasuke.

His ability to completely liquefy himself helped him greatly, and that’s probably what softened the blow of the Tailed Beast Ball for him. That still leaves some questions as a Tailed Beast Ball is not to be taken lightly, as we have seen even Pain struggling against it. Another thing that could explain Suigetsu’s survival is his association with Orochimaru.

Whether one hates him or loves him, it’s hard to doubt Orochimaru’s capabilities. Being Orochimaru’s disciple is more than enough to make the most obsolete characters credible. Even though fans have come up with their own explanations, it would have been better if Kishimoto explained exactly how Suigetsu managed to withstand the attack.

Naruto is available to stream on Netflix.
