A MONEY-SMART mum has proven you don’t need to spend thousands to give your house a makeover.
With the costs soaring, millions of cash-strapped households are looking for more purse-friendly ways to spruce up their homes – and now mother Kaysha has revealed how she did up her daughter’s bedroom on the cheap.

Mum Kaysha got the keys for her council house less than a month ago – and she’s already managed to transform her daughter’s bedroom[/caption]
Social media users were so impressed by the epic glow-up, they even begged the mum to do up their homes[/caption]
Sharing the jaw-dropping makeover on her TikTok, Kaysha – who lives in a council house – told viewers she had snapped up loads of affordable items from popular retailers, including The Range.
Amongst these was an adorable ‘Look What I Made’ sign, £8, which her daughter could use to show off her artwork.
To complete the walls – which had a colourful sprinkle design – the thrifty mum also attached a light pink curtain rail, as well as rainbow-themed curtains.
”She’s also obsessed with rainbows, which I love – cause it goes hand in hand with her sprinkle obsession,” the mum chuckled in the video.
The curtains, which Kaysha purchased from the mega store Dunelm, were around £45 a pair.
Other gorgeous additions to the epic room included a white lampshade with colourful pompoms, a pastel-coloured ‘Storytime’ sign that went above the ”book arch”, as well as a rainbow nightlight that was also from Dunelm.
The bed – any kid’s dream – also featured rainbow bedding and some of her favourite toys.
”And then I got these spice racks from Ikea – I think they’re £3 each. Perfect storage for teddies or photo frames.”
The fabulous bedroom now also had its very own art station, where the little one could get creative with felt tips, crayons and more.
Amazed with the results, Kaysha said: ”We are finally done. Everything that I had envisioned for the past year and nine months had truly come to life.
”I can’t believe I have finally done it,” said the proud mother, adding that this was her daughter’s ”first-ever bedroom” and they had only got the keys just three weeks ago.
”I can finally say I’ve given her her dream bedroom.”
How to do your council house up on the cheap
- Take inspiration from pricier shops and head to B&M, Home Bargains for interior decorations.
- Head to YouTube for easy to follow tutorials on how to decorate rather than paying for professionals.
- For a quick glow-up for your floors or anywhere with tiles, opt for stick-on vinyl to save on costs.
- A lick of paint does wonders to make a room feel brand-new.
- Switch out kitchen cupboard knobs for modern ones instead of buying brand-new cupboards.
‘Be super proud of yourself!’
The jaw-dropping bedroom glow-up has since taken the platform by storm, winning Kaysha close to a whopping 66k views in just one day.
More than 270 people flooded to comments to praise the DIY fan, with one writing: ”Such an amazing job girly! Be super proud of yourself! Supermum.”
Another jokingly asked: ”Can your next project be doing up my room?”
Someone else chimed in: ”I love this. It’s exactly what a kids room should look like.
”Colourful and playful (not the boring beige colours we see too often on here).”
”Do your bedroom next! You deserve your dream room too after all the hard work you put in,” a fourth said.
