INTREPID Shauna Ni Dhonnacha learns how to ski in Ireland amid the Big Freeze and declares: “The Alps could never beat the Pistes of Roscommon.”

Thrillseeker Shauna dramatically dug out ski equipment as Arctic conditions sweep the country.

Impressed social media users flooded Shauna with praise for her ski stunt[/caption]

Releasing a video of her taking to Baltic Ireland’s newly created slopes, Shauna said: “It is snowing in Co Roscommon and this is the perfect day for me to learn how to ski.

“I can do it! I can do it!”

The Irish woman released a video on social media of her skiing effort, with the audio capturing her excited giggles and laughs as she laps up the challenge.

She said: “Such a howl! Who says you can’t learn how to ski in Roscommon?

“I honestly had the best day ever laughing to myself.”

Quizzed about how she happened to have ski gear to hand, Shauna revealed she got them from a pal.

She explained: “A friend gave them to me a few months ago! I’ve wanted to do this for a while but we had no snow.

“I’d been looking on donedeal a few months ago for a cheap pair to use in the snow and then a friend kindly gave me an old pair of hers from the shed.”

Impressed social media users flooded Shauna with praise for her ski stunt.

One said: “This is the energy we need in 2025.”


A second added: “Who needs the alps when you have Roscommon.”

A third declared: “You look like you had the best time ever.”

A fourth said: “I have seen it all now!”

Another said: “Your laugh is amazing.”

While a pal concluded: “You honestly just live your best life.”

COLD SNAP CONTINUES

A Status Yellow snow and ice warning had been in place until 12pm today for the whole country, while a Status Yellow low temperature warning is in place until midnight on Thursday.

However, as weather forecasters and experts predict severe temperatures of -8C to -11C over the coming nights Met Eireann have upgraded the alert.

A Status Orange Weather low temperature and ice warning will now come into place for Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wicklow, Cavan, Monaghan, Munster, Connacht from 8pm tonight.

It will remain in place until 10am on Wednesday with weather bosses warning it will be “extremely cold with widespread severe frost, ice and lying snow.”

Dangerous travelling conditions on roads and underfoot, travel disruption and delays and animal welfare issues are major concerns amid the Orange warning.

A Status Orange weather warning poses “a threat to life and property” amid infrequent and dangerous weather conditions.

And on Wednesday the status orange low Temperature and Ice warning for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Munster, Connacht will kick back in at 6pm.

This warning will remain in place until 11am on Thursday after the dangerous freeze on Wednesday night.

And that Status Yellow low temperature and ice warning remaining in place for the whole country then until 6am on Friday.
