According to a Citi News report, a military officer from the 11 Mechanised Battalion has reportedly been killed after being attacked by gunmen in Bawku.
The officer, who was not in uniform at the time, had left his station and was heading to another location when the assailants confronted and shot him.
The incident took place on Monday, March 17, 2025, near the Kpalore-Avengo area of Bawku township.
Since the resurgence of the conflict in October 2024, residents of Bawku have largely remained in self-imposed isolation based on their areas of residence.
So far, the renewed violence has claimed the lives of about 75 people, including women and children.
