Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto might be one of the greatest anime or manga series in history, but its reputation was ruined by its sequel spin-off series, Boruto. While Boruto got a lot of hype when it was announced, once the story started, fans couldn’t connect with it the way they connected with Naruto, and thus the series got criticized.

A lot of factors contributed to the failure of Boruto as a story, which ranged from the plot development to disrespect towards the old characters. But still, the series continued because the hardcore Naruto fans were willing to give it a chance until the end, and Kishimoto finally managed to make it a worthy series.
However, the problem with Boruto getting the deserved fame and recognition is that, neither the protagonist of the story, Boruto nor the former protagonist, Naruto is responsible for it. But the reason behind Boruto’s late success is Sarada Uchiha, daughter of Sasuke and Sakura, and her Mangekyou Sharingan, which might be a hard pill to swallow for the manga creator. This has caused a ruckus within the Naruto fanbase and has got them excited for Boruto once again.
Sarada Uchiha finally uses her Mangekyou Sharingan
Sarada Uchiha is one of the most important characters in Boruto and she only falls behind the main character, Boruto in terms of significance. Thus, her development in the story is quite critical and could cause major changes in the overall narrative. This is what exactly happened in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga chapter 20 which came out on March 18, 2025.
In the chapter, Sarada’s friends, Mitsuki, Araya, and Yodo are cornered by Ryu, the human god tree who is trying to extract information about Boruto. In order to do that, he hurts them and this forces Sarada to finally use her Mangekyou Sharingan and create a space-time tunnel (just like Obito Uchiha’s), that swallows Ryu’s iron sand.

Although Sarada awakened her Mangekyou Sharingan a long time ago, she finally used it in the latest chapter and this has hyped up the entire fanbase. It was truly one of the best Boruto chapters in a long time and considering the ongoing development, it is safe to assume that Kishimoto’s Boruto is only going to get even more exciting from here on.
Sarada might finally turn Boruto into a masterpiece
Boruto has been hated by fans since its inception and except for a few moments, every aspect of the story has been criticized because it couldn’t live up to the Naruto name. However, all of this might be changed from here on, and the character responsible for it would be Sarada which in some fashion does not look good for the series, considering the protagonist is Boruto.

In fact, Naruto fans have already started hyping up Masashi Kishimoto’s series and have praised Boruto quite a lot since the chapter featuring Sarada’s Mangekyou Sharingan was released.
While some are finally happy that Boruto is earning its share of respect, others are excited to see how Sarada’s Mangekyou Sharingan will make the story more thrilling.

Considering the ongoing hype, there is a big possibility that Boruto might reach close to Naruto in terms of fame and recognition. But it will take a lot of time and many other moments like these in order to deem Boruto successful.
Boruto is available to read on Viz Media.
