Dimitrov was left in agony as he took a serve, dropping to the ground while clutching his pectoral muscle.
The ace tried in vain to push through the pain.
But he was unable to continue and was forced to retire.
It meant Sinner, despite being well behind in the clash, was able to seal his spot in the quarters.
As for Dimitrov, he was left in tears as realisation of the injury took hold.
However, the 34-year-old has been able to find solace in his actress girlfriend.
Eiza Gonzalez, 35, is a Hollywood star who has featured in smash hit films like Godzilla vs Kong and Mr & Mrs Smith.
The pair went public with their relationship in May.

“I don’t know anything at the moment. It’s very unfortunate. I wish him a speedy recovery.”
